A slow-paced but interesting enough story that kept me wanting more until I turned the last page on my Kindle... it was compelling... not in a sense that we can say with a spy fiction or espionage novel. However, it was compelling in a humanising way. Once you begin reading it, you want to know about the characters... Mihika, her father, Bodhi, Sharvani, and all those labourers and weavers... the kaarigars. You want to know and empathise with their stories. On the other side, characters like Krita Suri attract you with a veil of pomp hiding the seething realism... impressed with the storyline and the open-ended conclusion as well.

<![CDATA[India that is Bharat: Coloniality, Civilisation, Constitution]]> 58508534 India, That Is Bharat, the first book of a comprehensive trilogy, explores the influence of European 'colonial consciousness' (or 'coloniality'), in particular its religious and racial roots, on Bharat as the successor state to the Indic civilisation and the origins of the Indian Constitution. It lays the foundation for its sequels by covering the period between the Age of Discovery, marked by Christopher Columbus' expedition in 1492, and the reshaping of Bharat through a British-made constitution-the Government of India Act of 1919. This includes international developments leading to the founding of the League of Nations by Western powers that tangibly impacted this journey.

Further, this work also traces the origins of seemingly universal constructs such as 'toleration', 'secularism' and 'humanism' to Christian political theology. Their subsequent role in subverting the indigenous Indic consciousness through a secularised and universalised Reformation, that is, constitutionalism, is examined. It also puts forth the concept of Middle Eastern coloniality, which preceded its European variant and allies with it in the context of Bharat to advance their shared antipathy towards the Indic worldview. In order to liberate Bharat's distinctive indigeneity, 'decoloniality' is presented as a civilisational imperative in the spheres of nature, religion, culture, history, education, language and, crucially, in the realm of constitutionalism.]]>

<![CDATA[Courage: The Joy of Living Dangerously]]> 96999
The book begins with an in-depth exploration of the meaning of courage and how it is expressed in the everyday life of the individual. Unlike books that focus on heroic acts of courage in exceptional circumstances, the focus here is on developing the inner courage that enables us to lead authentic and fulfilling lives on a day-to-day basis. This is the courage to change when change is needed, the courage to stand up for our own truth, even against the opinions of others, and the courage to embrace the unknown in spite of our fears-in our relationships, in our careers, or in the ongoing journey of understanding who we are and why we are here.

Courage also features a number of meditation techniques specifically designed by Osho to help people deal with their fears.]]>

His art of picking common issues from the world around us and making them into poetry is amazing. I enjoyed reading his poems overall and especially those that discuss discrimination and humanities common flaws and still with a hope that we may somehow find our innate qualities and become helpful, amicable, and empathetical society once more! Part 1 that contains the stories of those who have decided to stand and face their lives rather than running away was amazing to me. I liked the way the author has fused her critical insight and moral lessons, along with ideas to restore oneself, along with the stories in the own words of those who have suffered by the hands of people around them (mostly husbands). Dr Haseena's writing is amazing, to keep short. The second part where the author has discussed things in detail might be tedious and a little too niche for readers like me. Well, if you want to know how to reconstruct yourself once everything seems broken, this is the book for you! Ladies, do read it. Find motivation. Encourage yourself. And move on!

<![CDATA[Ponder Awhile Message From The Light]]> 1328370
Written as Dohas or couplets, each stanza of the fifty-one poems found in this collection chases the glow of a new dawn of world enlightenment. Straightforward, uncomplicated and wise, with titles such as "Mother Earth," "Married to the Light," "Charity," and "Peace," the author examines and dissects the frailty of life, the inevitability of death and the most tender part of the stalk and the root. These poems are necessary, irresistible and evolved. Courageous in their simple message, God and His many faces are pressed into the window box for all to see and celebrate. The poet encourages introspection, deliberation, mediation and the search for deeper meaning. His poems of praise, poems of contemplation and poems of provocation sing God's praises, His justice and His grace. Knowledge leads to understanding, which leads to peace and, finally, to love. It is what the world needs—a little of God's love, the fabric, the sheer essence; the gems of the universe unfold on these pages. And we are, as readers, better for these gifts.

Children love to watch cartoons. Even they try to copy acts and moves of their favourite characters. They love to see animals. They are always excited to go to the Zoo. This new poetry collection offers both cartoons as well as abundance of wildlife (that too in contemporary avatars) together. Heroes of each poem are animals, filled with life through simple words, emotions, and witty yet inspiring thoughts. Their (animals) conversations are funny, but their acts are thoughtful and motivating. And full-page describing images fill the gap and make your experience complete. I mean, what else you're looking for your children..

Do read it and you may like just because Centripetal offers new style and new content that is actively lacking in modern Indian English literature.

A lively theme that has been decorated with animated and assertive characters... both, Janani and Aman, are amazing persons who try to dominate the scene on their own but eventually realise that love is a two-way communication; love is a journey that takes people close to each other, not far away... It reminds of Bollywood movies, in patches, but stands tall, at last, as a work that can be called something between romantic fiction and a contemporary novel dealing with relevant and important issues marriage, social compulsions and love. I enjoyed reading it. I have only one feedback that might be called critical. On some occasions, the communication within one's mind, or the monologues, have been overstretched. That could have been bettered.

I truly enjoyed reading this novel. I liked the way the author has planned the entire setting of his short piece of fiction and the way she tried to hint, in every chapter, about what is going to happen next. However, the novel moves a little slow at the beginning. Though this will not deter the ideal readers of this work, kids and early teenagers. A perfect piece to ensure learn and fun together...

An Unusual Honeymoon 55888871
What happens when an ambitious girl-next-door finds herself on her honeymoon all alone, without a husband? What happens when she meets a handsome stranger who proposes a deal too lucrative to walk off from?

This is the story of Mahasweta who just wanted to redeem her self-esteem by at least succeeding at her career. Only, life doesn't happen that way. A lonely honeymoon turns into an unusual one as she agrees to an unrealistic deal.

This is a short, sweet, silly, feel good love story, with some laughter, some absurdities, some fun, some feelings and a beautiful and kind Fairy Godmother, too!]]>

The author is right... the introduction part that I have quoted above matches the description that I might have for this novel. It is a light read. A family drama if I may say, an Indian family drama that focuses on a couple who enter into a marriage, not by choice but encouraged by their ambition... but, do they know when love might strike and make its grip tighter around you? Mahashweta and Rahul seldom knew they were almost in love. But what about Aasmaan? The supermodel girlfriend of Rahul? There are a few twists that need to settle and you need to read the work to know what happens to a girl who was left by her fiance just before the wedding and what happens to the boy who is between her supposed wife and the girl he supposedly loves... comedy with romance and true love. ]]>

<![CDATA[Shaheen Bagh: From a Protest to a Movement]]> 54471616
Shaheen Bagh: From a Protest to a Movement is a moving tale of the brave women of Shaheen Bagh—patient, persevering and unbelievable peaceniks—who raised their voice for the deprived and the discriminated. Initially starting out as a cry of anguish against the allegedly discriminatory laws of the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens, it soon became a modern-day Gandhian movement for equal rights for all citizens.

The book is a result of the authors' abiding focus on the movement, including spending time with the brave hearts almost every day of the protest from dawn to dusk and beyond. The authors slept in the open near the protest site to understand what it takes for a ninety-year-old woman to leave the comfort of her bed during a chilly winter night and stand up for the future of each one of us as equal citizens of the country. The book recounts how the women did not abjure ahimsa even when their opponents stooped to barbs and bullets. It recaptures for the reader the riveting cry for democracy that was Shaheen Bagh.

Authors Ziya Us Salam and Uzma Ausaf take us on this glorious journey of the making of Shaheen Bagh and how it became a metaphor for resistance, spawning a hundred Shaheen Baghs across the country in a bid to restore the sanctity of the Constitution, the national flag and the national anthem.]]>

This book felt more like a ride to uncertainty and I kind of enjoyed it. You can feel the rise and fall, ambiguities and shifts in the narrative and that's how a non-fiction should progress. Though the lack of binding or unifying force might not impress some of the readers who look for an idea instead of content.

<![CDATA[Self-publishing: Expectation Vs Reality]]> 54381810
Before I go on to elaborate on my book, I would like to introduce myself to what gives me the potential and right to comment on this topic and even write a book on it.

I have been associated with the publishing industry for more than two decades. This means it has not only been my bread and butter but also my raison d’être.

At work, almost every day brought me eye to eye with an author or a writer distressed beyond words only to have his work see the light of day. As much as it was heart-wrenching for me to see them struggle, I used to feel the obligation and need to ease the process for writers.

Professionally, being in the sales and marketing arena, I always had a vantage point that enabled me to make out what sells and what doesn’t. To top that, I have been fortunate enough to collaborate with the “who’s who of the global publishing industry. Moreover, for the past few years, I have been assisting self-publishing authors. These together, have eventually made me an expert in gauging what would work for a particular author.

With the first-hand experience that I have gained by working with several authors closely, I thought it only natural to write a book for the new authors on the points that should be considered publishing their books.

This book is a humble attempt to help new authors with the basics of book publishing. I hope going through this book before they sketch out their work, will sure make their journey to publishing uncomplicated and safe.

Signing off with all good wishes to all the writers out there.

Happy Writing!

<![CDATA[The Growth Quotient: How to achieve sustainable professional growth and development (Growth Engineering Master Series, #1)]]> 54317313
Corona Pandemic has fast-tracked most of these developments. COVID is rewriting the rules of the game, and AI is automating them. Acute talent deficiency is another pandemic all of us will face very soon.

Ok. Let us park the pandemics for some time and talk about our eyesight. The average human eyesight is around 20 by 20. People with 20/30 vision don’t get a driving license in most countries. Anything around 20/1000 is considered blindness.

What about our mindsight? Is it 20/20? Much lesser. This book teaches you how to improve your mind-sight. This book introduces four different lenses. These lenses improve the mind-sight significantly.

Let's talk about hunger now. Whenever we are hungry, our tummy sends multiple signals to the whole body. Immediately, our eyes start the search operation, and our tongue joins the mission with the taste sensors. The nose filters out the smells, and the mouth begins to secrete the saliva. The whole body works in tandem until we finish a plate or two—most of the time, over-cooperation results in super binging.

What about our brains? Is it endowed with all these facilities? How do you know when the brain is hungry? How do you sense if someone feeds it toxic food?

All successful leaders in the world have a Mind Position System fitted to their brains. The mid positioning system helps them to navigate through any tough and uncomfortable situation. You can also get this if you want. This book teaches you how to install one. Three aspects define your personality:

What you have
What you drop
What you pick
The foundational qualities you need to have:

High Ambition
A strong Belief system
Clarity on goals and ambitions
Undeterred Discipline
ABCDs in short.

The thoughts you need to drop:

Unrealistic Expectations
Unfounded Fear
Greed
Hatred
EFGH in short.

You need to pick four quotients (or lenses):

1. Consciousness Quotient
2. Environmental Quotient
3. Digital Quotient
4. Number Quotient

That's not all. You will learn to apply the following time tested methods at your workplace:

GRIT method to achieve your goals
OPEN method for better communication
SIMPLE method to for effective communication and presentation
PATH method to get customer delight
HEAL method to heal the wounded clients and team members
SUIT method to resolve team conflicts
CALM method to overcome fear

The fact that author has taken references from our very own Indian sources
Examples come from our surroundings and mostly talked-heard facts and that's very productive.
The book really motivates!

What could have made it even better for youth like me?
That the author could link the expectations with a roadmap on how to achieve success in this competitive future by starting from the scratch. A person like me would really love to know how can I make the most out of the current opportunities. I hope that the author will take one step further and write a prequel to the book which will introduce the beginners to the world of technology and data and unlimited opportunities. This will further improve the book's effectiveness.

Moving for Moksha 53343455
The collection of poems takes us on a journey to ponder the truth and fallacies of life that come our way. The poems are mostly mystic in nature, having more than what it seems to be... you will certainly love it if you have a taste for English poetry.
by: Amit Mishra (founder of The Indian Authors & Indian Book Lovers)

...beauty, truth, eternity.... a very close observation of life, these poems sneak into nothing but the philosophy of life that people confront during life-span.
by: Ravi Kumar, Research Scholar with expertise in Indian English Literature, a writer for many online literary platforms

The poems reflect disillusion, rejection, realisation and answer to the final call Moksha, as called in Indian philosophy. The innovative form with a 4-3-6 pattern looks very apt for the emotional and intellectual and also cryptic nature of the poems in this collection.

One Amazing Thing 6585252
Late afternoon sun sneaks through the windows of a passport and visa office in an unnamed American city. Most customers and even most office workers have come and gone, but nine people remain. A punky teenager with an unexpected gift. An upper-class Caucasian couple whose relationship is disintegrating. A young Muslim-American man struggling with the fallout of 9/11. A graduate student haunted by a question about love. An African-American ex-soldier searching for redemption. A Chinese grandmother with a secret past. And two visa office workers on the verge of an adulterous affair.

When an earthquake rips through the afternoon lull, trapping these nine characters together, their focus first jolts to their collective struggle to survive. There's little food. The office begins to flood. Then, at a moment when the psychological and emotional stress seems nearly too much for them to bear, the young graduate student suggests that each tell a personal tale, "one amazing thing" from their lives, which they have never told anyone before. And as their surprising stories of romance, marriage, family, political upheaval, and self-discovery unfold against the urgency of their life-or-death circumstances, the novel proves the transcendent power of stories and the meaningfulness of human expression itself. From Chitra Divakaruni, author of such finely wrought, bestselling novels as Sister of My Heart, The Palace of Illusions , and The Mistress of Spices , comes her most compelling and transporting story to date. One Amazing Thing is a passionate creation about survival -- and about the reasons to survive.]]>

Relevant to today’s war-torn world, The Palace of Illusions takes us back to a time that is half history, half myth, and wholly magical. Narrated by Panchaali, the wife of the legendary Pandavas brothers in the Mahabharat, the novel gives us a new interpretation of this ancient tale.

The Palace of Illusions traces the princess Panchaali's life, beginning with her birth in fire and following her spirited balancing act as a woman with five husbands who have been cheated out of their father’s kingdom. Panchaali is swept into their quest to reclaim their birthright, remaining at their side through years of exile and a terrible civil war involving all the important kings of India. Meanwhile, we never lose sight of her strategic duels with her mother-in-law, her complicated friendship with the enigmatic Krishna, or her secret attraction to the mysterious man who is her husbands' most dangerous enemy. <![CDATA[Asura: Tale Of The Vanquished, The Story of Ravana and His People]]> 13563459
The story of the Ramayana had been told innumerable times.
The enthralling story of Rama, the incarnation of God, who slew Ravana, the evil demon of darkness, is known to every Indian. And in the pages of history, as always, it is the version told by the victors that lives on. The voice of the vanquished remains lost in silence. But what if Ravana and his people had a different story to tell?

The story of the Ravanayana has never been told.
Asura is the epic tale of the vanquished Asura people, a story that has been cherished by the oppressed castes of India for 3000 years. Until now, no Asura has dared to tell the tale. But perhaps the time has come for the dead and the defeated to speak.

“For thousands of years, I have been vilified and my death is celebrated year after year in every corner of India. Why? Was it because I challenged the Gods for the sake of my daughter? Was it because I freed a race from the yoke of caste-based Deva rule? You have heard the victor’s tale, the Ramayana. Now hear the Ravanayana, for I am Ravana, the Asura, and my story is the tale of the vanquished."

“I am a non-entity invisible, powerless and negligible. No epics will ever be written about me. I have suffered both Ravana and Rama the hero and the villain or the villain and the hero. When the stories of great men are told, my voice maybe too feeble to be heard. Yet, spare me a moment and hear my story, for I am Bhadra, the Asura, and my life is the tale of the loser.

The ancient Asura empire lay shattered into many warring petty kingdoms reeling under the heel of the Devas. In desperation, the Asuras look up to a young saviour Ravana. Believing that a better world awaits them under Ravana, common men like Bhadra decide to follow the young leader. With a will of iron and a fiery ambition to succeed, Ravana leads his people from victory to victory and carves out a vast empire from the Devas. But even when Ravana succeeds spectacularly, the poor Asuras find that nothing much has changed from them. It is then that Ravana, by one action, changes the history of the world.]]>

To Kill a Mockingbird 2657 "Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird."

A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much.

"To Kill A Mockingbird" became both an instant bestseller and a critical success when it was first published in 1960. It went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was later made into an Academy Award-winning film.]]>

The Tailor's Needle offers growth of children's mind who have been taught at home by British governess and almost untouched with the classroom experience. And we are not talking of modern times but the times when India was enslaved by the British. Although the novel is set during the British rule, almost half of the novel talks about the manner and circumstances in which they have been brought up and further their sneaking to adulthood phase of life is an interesting portion of the story. Here we have many things to contrast between Maneka and Sita and contrasting inherited genetic qualities from their parents. Sir Saraswati Chandra is a learned and wise man who wants to see his reflection in children but that's not always possible...
Gauri and Yogendra's love story has some comfort and solace... Maneka's life is tragic and Sita is a meek girl who obeys her father all the way except for once...

Independent and spirited Bathsheba Everdene has come to Weatherbury to take up her position as a farmer on the largest estate in the area. Her bold presence draws three very different suitors: the gentleman-farmer Boldwood, soldier-seducer Sergeant Troy and the devoted shepherd Gabriel Oak. Each, in contrasting ways, unsettles her decisions and complicates her life, and tragedy ensues, threatening the stability of the whole community. The first of his works set in the fictional county of Wessex, Hardy's novel of swift passion and slow courtship is imbued with his evocative descriptions of rural life and landscapes, and with unflinching honesty about sexual relationships.]]>
