Drace (dracenines) | 6647 comments Title says it all. The recent British editions of some of Gibson's Sprawl books have incorrect descriptions. Corrections below:

Burning Chrome (ISBN 9781473217447)

IT WAS HOT, THE NIGHT WE BURNED CHROME.

Best known for his seminal SF novel Neuromancer, William Gibson is also a master of short fiction. Tautly-written and suspenseful, Burning Chrome collects 10 of his best short stories with a preface from Bruce Sterling, co-cyberpunk and editor of the seminal anthology Mirrorshades.

These brilliant, high-resolution stories show Gibson’s characters and intensely-realised worlds at their absolute best. Contains ‘Johnny Mnemonic (filmed starring Keanu Reeves) and the title story ‘Burning Chrome, in which Gibson first coined the term ‘cyberspace both nominated for the Nebula award as well as the Hugo-and-Nebula-nominated stories ‘Dogfight and ‘The Winter Market.

Count Zero (ISBN 9781473217409):

THEY SET A SLAMHOUND ON TURNER’S TRAIL IN NEW DELHI, SLOTTED IT TO HIS PHEROMONES AND THE COLOUR OF HIS HAIR.

When the Maas Biolabs and Hosaka zaibatsus fight it out for world domination, computer cowboys like Turner and Count Zero are just foot soldiers in the great game: useful but ultimately expendable.

When Turner wakes up in Mexico in a new body with a beautiful woman beside him his corporate masters let him recuperate for a while, then reactivate his memory for a mission even more dangerous than the one that nearly killed him: the head designer from Maas Biolabs says he wants to defect to Hosaka, and it’s Turner’s job to deliver him safely.

Count Zero is a rustbelt data-hustler totally unprepared for what comes his way when the designer’s defection triggers a war in cyberspace. With voodoo gods in the Net and angels in the software, he can only hope that the megacorps and the super-rich have their virtual hands too full to notice the amateur hacker with the black-market kit trying desperately to stay alive . . .

[Note: the publication date on this edition is incorrect. It should be February 23 2017. If anyone can change this: thank you.] (The date error has been completed.)

Mona Lisa Overdrive (ISBN: 9781473217423)

THE GHOST WAS HER FATHER’S PARTING GIFT, PRESENTED BY A BLACK-CLAD SECRETARY IN A DEPARTURE LOUNGE AT NARITA.

Mona is a young girl with a murky past and an uncertain future whose life is turned upside down when her pimp sells her to a plastic surgeon in New York and overnight she’s turned into someone else.

Angie Mitchell is a famous Hollywood Sense/Net star with a special talent. And despite the efforts of studio bosses to keep her in ignorance, Angie’s started remembering things. Soon she’ll discover who she really is . . . and why she doesn’t need a deck in order to enter cyberspace.

From inside the matrix, plots are set in motion and human beings are being played like pieces on a board. And behind the intrigue lurks the shadowy Yakuza, the powerful Japanese underworld, whose leaders ruthlessly manipulate people and events to suit their own purposes.

Or so they think . . .

Drace (dracenines) | 6647 comments This thread was originally just for the British editions of the Sprawl Trilogy, but upon investigation, the books in Gibson's two other trilogies, Bridge and Blue Ant, also have errors that need to be corrected. So I've repurposed it. This post contains the corrections that need to be made for the Bridge trilogy. Next post will be Blue Ant.

Virtual Light (ISBN 9780241953501):

- The incorrect author has been listed. For some reason, the author on the page is “Mr William Gibson instead of Gibson’s actual page, and clicking on this author page takes me to a 404 page. The author on the page should be William Gibson.

- The publication date is incorrect. It should be July 28, 2011.

- The page count is incorrect. It should be 307 pages.

- The description has some formatting issues. Correctly-formatted description below:

San Francisco in the nearish future.

Ex-cop Berry Rydell's lost one job he didn't much like and landed another he likes even less. Some sunglasses - actually high-end kit infused with super-sensitive data - were stolen from a courier, and a man named Warbaby's been charged with retrieving them. And Warnaby needs Rydell's help.

But, with SFPD Homicide involved, an abandoned bridge populated by freaks and misfits, and some weirdness involving the Republic of Desire and a 'Death Star', it's turning out to be a very strange and dangerous scene indeed . . .

Can Rydell navigate this unsteady reality in time to save the city . . . and himself?

William Gibson, author of the classic Neuromancer and creator of cyberpunk, here turns his hyper-acute imagination on the near future - to supercharged, nerve-shredding effect.

Idoru (ISBN 9780241953525)

- The page count is incorrect. It should be 304 pages.

- The parenthetical (source: back cover) is in the description and should probably be removed.
(Both items completed.)

All Tomorrow's Parties (ISBN 9780241953518)

- The page count should be 288 pages.

- The publication date should be July 28, 2011.

- The description has formatting issues. It should read as follows:

The Bridge, San Francisco, after the quake:

Ex-cop Berry Rydell has been hired by Colin Laney - who is hooked deep into the network of things - to go to San Francisco and act in such a way that he comes to the attention of a certain unspecified individual. This, Laney promises Rydell, could prove life-threatening. And now Rydell's been sent a package. Something that belonged to Laney, something that others with guns, blades and very bad attitudes want. And suddenly Rydell's running, trying get to the old Bridge, the shantytown where a man can get lost, be forgotten and wait for the end of the world - which is the other thing that Laney promised . . .

The kind of people who relish turning the hunter into the hunted . . .

- The publication date is incorrect. It should be July 28, 2011.

- The page count should be 384 pages.

Soon, though, it becomes clear that Bigend's interest in underground labels might have sinister applications. Powerful parties, who'll do anything to get what they want, are showing their hand. And Hollis is about to find herself in the crossfire.

Drace (dracenines) | 6647 comments Giving this a bump. I'm not 100% sure how often I should be bumping this thread, so if any librarians have any preference I'll stick with that.

Saturn (xsaturn) | 648 comments Some issues had already been fixed. Now everything should be ok.

Crossed off the issues that were corrected. The Sprawl books still need their descriptions changed, and I noticed issues with the description for All Tomorrow's Parties that I edited into the post for the Bridge Trilogy.

To any and all librarians who helped with the other issues, thank you very much.

Drace (dracenines) | 6647 comments Bumping. It looks like the descriptions for the Sprawl books are almost complete, but they're missing the quotations from the book that open each description and italics/formatting.

Other than that, they're more or less correct. Thanks to whoever took care of that.
