"I heard Dr. Barr speak at a theology conference (in collaboration with Andrew Bartlett (Men and Women in Christ). Her historical analysis coupled with Bartlett’s detailed exegetical presentations were deeply compelling and powerful. I am particularly thankful for Dr. Barr’s courageous naming of complimentarianism as patriarchy—and demonstrating the historic pathway in which it has shaped and reshaped itself over the history of the church. Women have indeed been overlooked, oppressed and silenced—when Jesus himself empowered and celebrated the faith of women. What if, after all, as Dr Barr asks, Jesus and Paul were indeed calling for a move away from patriarchy into a genuinely equal existence and service of our God? We have seriously missed the mark. This work is a critical companion to any study of the theology of men and women."
