Books like this series make me wish I had more time to read. Life made it take for.ev.er to finish, but that ending! I am not really a space and war story type of reader, so not sure exactly how I ended up reading this series, and the only reason I am giving a 4 in the end was in part that the spaceship and war commentary heavy scenes left me skimming forward a bit, and in part because there were some very strong similarities in several parts to another fantastic (because this was still fantastic) trilogy that was made into a major motion picture, and then some. This last book contained those parts, not the first two, so I took the star from this book. Drug the credit for creativity down a bit. (maybe those were tropes that are supposed to be in this genre?) Anyway, the book was fun to read otherwise, a page turner for sure, and full of emotion and longing on my part. Wow, way to leave us on a cliffhanger Mr. Brown! The story is so good that I don't even care, though- time to buy Book #3.

This book was full of emotion and adventure, politics and chaotic battle. It has you constantly rooting for your favorite characters, but then tends to let you down (in the most interesting ways at least). Don't let yourself hope too much. If you've gotten through Red Rising and you are wondering if you shoulder pick up Book #2, just do it. If you are stuck at the start of Red Rising and trying to decide if you should keep reading... yes. This was another slow start, and in the first few chapters, felt like a fluffy book, but I stuck with it (mostly because it was the only book I brought on a recent trip). So, so glad I did! I really enjoyed the stories it painted, and (because I am a nerd through and through) all the educational and historical bits.
