3.5/5

I WILL BE REAL HONEST WITH THIS ONE. i have no idea what to rate this. unfortunately, i hated this book and found it extremely boring, repetitive, pointless, without a semblance of a plot all the way up until page 242. i didn’t care. i really didn’t care. i didn’t care about the girls, their school grades, the people around them. i didn’t care about their childhood, their teachers. but then, around page 242, when they became teenagers, and when shit hit the fan OH GOD. yes. i’m in. the drama is juicy and i want more. i NEED to know more. maybe i’m not particularly fond of any of the characters, but now the story got me HOOKED. i must say, by the end of the book, when the protagonist is a little bit older and forms thoughts and opinion that are a little more mature, this book makes you think a little, too.
one thing i REALLY loved though, is the complexity of this female friendship. the hidden (but not really) competitiveness of it. i think this is a huge part of being born a girl and growing up a girl, especially in a certain kind of society, and i find it to be really relatable to pretty much all of us. this was done extremely, extremely well by the author.

so, yeah: i’m confused, i hated the most part of this book, yet I NEED TO READ THE NEXT ONE. I NEED TO KNOW. ]]>

phenomenal in every single aspect. the ending hit me so hard so good. i enjoyed this slightly less than “to the lighthouse, but still, wow, what a book. i truly lived this party, this society, these people and london through these pages. virginia woolf was absolutely crazy for writing so impeccably. ]]>
