How easy is that? One of Ina's famous statements during most of her television episodes but her life was anything but easy. She does admit while it has not been an easy life, it has been an amazing life and after reading this memoir, I have to agree! She's one of my favorite cookbook authors and I think now I understand why. She learned to cook on her own, no training, and admits that she's a nervous cook - even today! She's also a much big risk taker than I have ever been. If you told her something couldn't be done or wasn't a good idea, she goes out of her way to prove you wrong! I love that her husband, Jeffery, has been her biggest fan since day one. He has always been supportive and encouraging her to find what makes her happy. This book was such an easy read I finished it in a little over a day. ]]>

I don't remember when or where I first head about this book, but I put it on hold through my library and I'm so glad I did. I am a fan of art, but don't know much about it. I was absolutely stunned at how easily this man (and his girlfriend) got away with stealing so many works of art - with no motive other than he wanted them for his own "collection". The fact that he doesn't know how to stop stealing is sad because he's clearly an intelligent individual who would probably have had a successful career in the art world. It's even more criminal how many of the pieces that he stole were destroyed or never recovered. A very interesting and easy listen. ]]>

DNF.
I could only listen to the first half of the book. I didn't like ANY of the characters and the story felt rambling and all over the place. I honestly don't know where this story was going and frankly, don't care. I'm not sure I have ever posted such a negative review and it makes me sad because I do like Erdrich and she's local her in Minnesota but this book. Ugh. ]]>

A fascinating story that is well-written and easy to listen to. I'm amazed that this person had zero remorse for their actions let alone the amount of TIME it took to mess with these women's lives. ]]>

A wonderful, sweet and feel-good story - just what I needed these days. When I first started listening to it I was worried it was going to all be told by the POV of the octopus - by the time I got into the meat of the book I was hoping for more Marcellus! I was also concerned because I saw so many reviews comparing it to a Man Called Ove - which I was NOT a fan of, so I was really happy that this one kept me engaged until the very end. I had a pretty good feeling where the story was going, but enjoyed the road getting there. ]]>

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
"Tova, a recent widow whose only child mysteriously disappeard 20 years ago, begins a night shift job cleaning an aquarium in Puget Sound. She enjoys the solitude and "it gives her something to do". While mopping floors and wiping fingerprints off the tanks she meets Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus, and they form a remarkable friendship. There was a parallel story and I couldn't understand the connection, so I was delighted when they converged.

This was an easy 5-star rating. It was quirky, charming and heartwarming, with a couple of life-lessons to chew on. The characters were diverse and believable (even Marcellus!). I have to say one of my favorite characters was Ethan, the small-town grocer from Scotland who seemed to know everyone's business. A friend recommended I listen to the audiobook rather than reading and I do believe it added to my enjoyment. This book is a treasure! (And now excuse me while I go down another internet rabbit hole looking up that remarkably bright creature: octopus.)
