It was amazing. What a journey. This last book, specially, made me emotional at points. Can't say that about many books.

I love the way she writes the characters, how they are so human. How you hate and love them, how they're stubborn, sometimes annoying, how they make mistakes. I love how she takes time writing about their trauma and turmoil, and their journey to surpass it. Even trauma that the heroes give to each other. These characters went through war and have seen and experienced despicable things, and that leaves scars, physical and emotional. None of them are predictable and perfect, not even the main characters - and I love that. There is no moral perfection. They have real character developments, like real people, and that makes you so attached to them.

I admired the way she puts things together, how the tiniest details are connected to the main story. I struggled with Assassin's Blade, as it felt like a concoction of random short stories, but it amazed me how every single one was important to the series. How Aelin calls each and every debt, to help her kingdom. I loved her schemes, and how she surprised everyone with them.

I also love how the author made us feel emotions so deeply. The hopelessness of the story as it went on, the hopelessness of war. The anger of what was happening to them. I was so emotionally attached that at points it felt like my real life was secondary.

I honestly cannot wait for the dramatized audio version of this whole series. Or for enough time to pass so I can re-read everything.

For people who are considering starting this - keep with it, the world building is necessary and the story only gets really good by the 3rd book imo.

My only complaint - I still don't understand how war, torture and violence in general can be described so easily, specially in the first books that are considered YA, but sexual depictions are majorly closed doors. It's so very contradictory to me. (I wanna know what Lorcan did!) ]]>
