Definitely my favourite academic rivals to lovers! I love the way Saft writes characters, they feel like real people who all have their own motivations.

With that being said, there are 2 reasons this wasn't quite a five star read for me.
1) I would have liked a little more of the fantasy elements. I found the magic system interesting, and I loved all the fae lore, but most of this comes in the form of fairytales and not actual events in the story.
2) I found the ending a bit underwhelming

Overall though, this was a wonderful book, and I really liked the audio narration too

Edit: saw someone I was following review this and realized I originally gave this 4.5 stars?? Not sure why because I do not remember anything about this other than liking the narrator and not loving the plot. I might have been being nice because I love the cover tbh. ]]>

The Courtesan's Eye by Kate Hyers
"I got to read an advance copy of this, and had an absolute blast with it. For disclosure: I am not a romantasy girlie. I have been burned too many times by the shadow daddy books. The Courtesan's Eye is like a HUGE breath of fresh air. One of the two MCs, Corde, is an absolute riot and everything I've wanted from a main character. The other MC, Aelus, is so far from a shadow daddy as possible. Give me more anxious men wrapped up in religious crises in my romance!!!! The world building is complex, but easy to follow, and I loved the queer representation. It's not just throw away side characters; the whole story beats with queer authenticity, humor and joy. (and angst) ((though none of the angst is about being queer)) (((tbh most of the angst comes from the straight bro))).

This book is co-authored, which can sometimes feel clunky, but The Courtesan's Eye flows so well that I don't think you could tell there are two authors unless it was on the cover.

Overall, a VERY fun ride ((much like Corde)), and would highly recommend!"
