"It's wishing instead that a collective rejection of the stereotypes that have dogged the continent ever since the White Men In Khaki drew their fictitious map will encourage the world, as the Year of Return did, to engage with the continent as it actually exists - not with an idea, but with its genuine form... engage with all of it: each language and climate; each political and social framework; each nation trying to form its identity specifically."

this was so informational and compelling regarding the political and social aspects of numerous african nations in such an entertaining way i loved it. i read this for a history of Africa course and i finished this book weeks before i was supposed to but so worth it and so fun to discuss ]]>

"Within the broad spectrum of resistance in Germany itself it was the working class that distinguished itself as the most important and chief obstacle to the monstrous ambitions of the Third Reich."

This book got more and more interesting the further I read. It has definitely introduced me to a perspective of World War II that I have been largely unaware of until recently. I am so interested in reading more works similar to this ]]>

"But when the dust settles a little, it is those still half connected with the old order who command mass support - for the masses do not abandon overnight the prejudices hammered into them over a lifetime. There is no easy path by which the hard lessons of experience, that alone will change their views, can be evaded." ]]>

'I will protect even those I hate,' Kaladin whispered through bloody lips, 'So long as it is right.'

this is definitely my favorite one so far. i feel like i just read four books rather than one because everything ever seemed to happen yet the end of the book is a reminder that the remaining problems just happen to be the very large, seemingly impossible to fix ones. i need to buy the 3rd one asap or i will have withdrawals from not reading about kaladin or shallan. ]]>

'I can’t unfind you.'

this was so weird yet so enthralling?? the complexity that is alien and human reproduction blending to highlight the flaws of humanity, especially our creation of social hierarchy, is so interesting to see intertwined throughout this story ]]>
