Violeta, like Laysee, I'm also not a reader of graphic books as the drawings distract me from the text, or maybe I'm simply unable to appreciate the depth of the illustrations. I do enjoy children's picture books, though.
Your enticing review, especially your experience of how the illustrations spoke to you, probably more than the text, makes me want to pick up one of the graphic novels resting on my bookshelf. I also loved your lines on how we are eager for the next chapter despite being aware of the predetermined endings. ]]>

Cecily, you've tempted me to add this to my TBR with your splendid review, thank you! I especially loved how you described the book along with an apt image - "It’s a book of absence: of reason, of men, of authority, of family, of answers. But in the gaps, life and meaning bloom." ]]>

Ilse is on page 44 of 225 of The Café with No Name: In Vienna, anyone who is nice is suspicious. We ought to be ashamed of our own thoughts. Come on, not all thoughts are bad. Most of them are, though. Depraved through and through. Is there no hope for us, then? Maybe, but who knows if that's something to wish for? Hope is the sister of stupidity.

Cheryl, so glad to come across a review of yours again. I particularly love the quote about the shortcomings of language. Thank you for introducing me to this author with your excellent review. I'll keep her in mind. It must be painful for her to watch her mother being unhappy as a mother. ]]>

Cecily is finished with I Who Have Never Known Men: Thoughtful, gentle, compelling, disturbing, hopeful.

Review to come.
