This was amazing

Granted I'm a huge fan of Janice Hallett's particular way of telling a story but I'd say this is the best so far

First of all her trademark peculiarities of the human condition characters are in abundance here, plus it's twistier than a box full of snakes then there's the cleverly placed SURPRISE moments and a well landed ending.

A joy to read first page to last. ]]>

The concept for this novel is intriguing, unfortunately the execution of it...well let's just say not so much.

Told by Bela who is 8 this suffers from the fact that anyone who's ever had an 8 year old child will not be able to relate at all. I can't speak to the authors experience but I could guess. Also Bela's parents are, well, prone to pontificating rather than advancing the story. The entire thing was uber repetitive and honestly I only finished it to see if there was anything unpredictable at the end. Spoiler: there isn't.

As for being scary, no. Well OK the parents are scary but that's an entirely different thing. I remain disappointed because it promised so much. Apologies to the author but this wasn't for me at all ]]>

A proper page turner which I've come to expect from Vanda Symon, read it all in one go.

Sam tackles a cold case and the working mum juggling act and it's all compelling, intriguing and clever.

Such a great read, I'm never disappointed with these. ]]>

Our Last Resort has the benefit of being a page turner whilst not really offering up anything that makes it stand out amongst the plethora of cult stories and psychological thrillers.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, depends on your current wishful reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this, it is well written, twisty enough with engaging characters.

Overall not quite living up to the promise of this authors debut but great none the less. Recommended. ]]>

I bought this because I was a huge fan of Villains, this was short but a decent read.

I enjoyed it, possibly more the idea of it because it's like a snapshot, a novella that doesn't quite tell the whole story. Like maybe the first quarter that then leaves you wishing it kept going to a more natural conclusion.

I loved the concept and the characters. The writing is great. I hope M L Rio writes a full length book soon. I'll be there for it. ]]>
