No one writes romance like CMQ, and that is because they deliver a boldly different take on what the romance genre can be with each of their books, starting with RWRB. Their new novel The Pairing does not disappoint in this fabulous trajectory. It is so exciting to see an author continue to top themself because of a dogged dedication to perfect their craft--there is no complacency happening here.

The Pairing is sensory and indulgent, yes, with absolutely delicious writing. This is not a surprise...but should not be taken for granted! What really excites me the most are the structural intricacies caused by [spoilers removed]. I don't want to give too much away, except to say this: by the second half, the book is making love to itself, and the reader is invited to join, thanks to expertly executed dramatic irony and absolutely top-notch character development.

And dayum, this book may be about a European food tour, but wowee is there some SPICY SPICE in here. Enough that my mouth dropped open a few times and I wrote, "Damn, daddy!" in the margins. And yes, that is the highest compliment I can give to steamy scene.
