i have never suffered so much reading a book in my entire life. haunting adeline felt like a social experiment to see how much secondhand embarrassment, rage, and psychological damage one person can endure before spontaneously combusting.

adeline is quite literally the most frustrating character i’ve ever encountered. i have never wanted to crawl into a book and shake someone more. she is the olympic champion of bad decisions. every single thought she had made me want to launch my kindle across the room. it was like she actively went looking for new ways to ruin her life. i spent half the time begging her to make one smart decision and she still disappointed me.

and zade meadows... oh lord. zade meadows is not a man. he’s a deranged, feral monster who belongs behind bars with a 24/7 psychological evaluation. every time he spoke, it was like getting personally attacked with a cheese grater. and the fact that there are genuinely people out there who want him to be real??? i need that studied immediately. he doesn’t need love, he needs to be locked up and sedated.

i have never hated two main characters more in my life. it felt like watching two red flags chasing each other off a cliff in slow motion. they deserve each other in the worst way possible �� and i deserved financial compensation for surviving this book.

this book made me want to punch drywall, scream into the void, and re-evaluate every decision that led me to picking it up in the first place.
