Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
"I have an enjoyed a few a TJR’s novels disliked one and skipped others because I didn’t like Malibu. Fair? Not at all. I gave Atmosphere a shot and it landed well for me. This is commercial fiction and works. This novel grapples with God and gods as a well as the atmosphere that we create around us and marvel about both above and beyond us. Love in its various forms both traditional and alternative is explored within the confines of the time period. I’ve always believed that astronauts are courageous beyond belief. The very thought of being physically launched into nothingness is terrifying. Sometimes, the nothingness of meditation is unsettling and I am firmly planted on earth. Anyway, this is among TJR’s better efforts. Enjoy!"

“Let the storm into you, Paige. Hold it inside. See yourself as a force of nature, vast enough to defeat a god and carry that image for all of your days.

What a great bridge between book 3 and 4! I can’t wait for the next. ]]>

The third book in The Bone Season series, The Song Rising, takes readers on yet another gripping journey through the dystopian world of Scion. The story begins with Paige Mahoney stepping into her new and perilous role as the Underqueen of the Mime Order—a position that places an immense weight on her shoulders. As much as she fought for this moment, holding onto power proves to be an entirely different battle.
At first, the novel takes a more introspective route, delving into Paige’s struggles with internal politics. She must navigate betrayal, shifting alliances, and the pressure of leading a fractured syndicate while still recovering from the harrowing events of The Mime Order. Some might find this slower buildup challenging, but it lays a necessary foundation for the explosive turns that follow. The deeper focus on Paige’s leadership, the tension among her followers, and the calculated risks she takes make her evolution all the more compelling.

Just when you think you know where the story is headed, Shannon takes the plot in wildly unexpected directions. The novel does not follow a predictable trajectory, which keeps the reader on edge. The emotional weight of the book is immense—Paige faces heartbreaking losses, impossible choices, and sacrifices that redefine her journey.

And then comes the ending. The Song Rising does not conclude with a sense of closure but rather feels like the beginning of something even bigger. The final moments left me speechless, completely unsure of what to expect in Book 4—but absolutely certain that I need to pick it up as soon as possible. ]]>
