these books are enjoyable enough hence I keep returning to them yet there's always something holding me back from enjoying them wholly.
I do think with this one it's the case Holmes just seems a little bit dim witted..the great detective maybe allowed semi retirement to addle the senses but there's a few times in this book where Russell leads Holmes which is where maybe I struggle.
I sort of wish these books had maybe a composite original fictional detective as the Holmes of Conan Doyle is barely here.
the story itself?..its OK..somewhat long given the eventual outcome seemed pretty obvious but it didn't bore and I will read on. ]]>

To be honest I knew very little of Roberto Duran...I was aware of his name from a Zodiac Mindwarp lyric and had a idea he was a boxer...my unawareness was odd as he boxed for decades including eras when I had more interest in boxing..however in truth ..at that point maybe he wasn't at his best.
This book however follows a long career of ups and downs, twists and turns..Duran the man seemed interesting too though the book is less invested in this...his seeming generosity seems to have dented his spending power.
Anyhow good stuff and shows how a good biography transcends your knowledge of the subject. ]]>

Another Holmes pastiche ?..yep...I have found a few already this year that will make up a pile to be read before the years out.
This one is set in the classic period I guess the Holmes and Watson Baker street years not the retired beekeeper ones or the married years that make up some of the forthcoming years reads.
this is a light tale in many ways the mysteries of hauntings within a family house...is it spooks...or something more human?
well...I'm not telling but what I will say is though no Holmes I pieced up parts of this case quite easily early on so the latter revelations?...generally but confirmation...
Not a bad shortish tale mind you which engaged enough and didn't outstay its welcome.
As to how it fits with others of this type I've read?...about midway really far from tragically bad but neither does it scale new heights...a case of ..it is what it is. ]]>
