Walkable City makes a lot of great points and I will definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in cities that encourage walking, biking and taking transit over driving. Having moved to the Washington DC area after living in Los Angeles, I definitely feel the advantages and happiness of having a good transit system.

Docking a couple of stars because of 2 reasons. Firstly, the book uses Europe as a point of comparison pretty much always. That feels lazy to me when there is the entire rest of the world with a huge number of fairly dense, walkable cities to choose from. In other words, the book does not feel holistically researched when it mostly talks about how the US can become more like Europe. Secondly, I found the "Update to the 10th Anniversary Edition" portion of the book somewhat of a drag to read because it re-hashed many of the earlier points and I found myself having to skim it to keep my interest.

All in all, this is an important book and I feel more and more people in the US should read this book (at least getting familiar with the various points in the book if not reading it from cover to cover) and understand the benefits of a lifestyle that is different from suburban sprawl. ]]>
