This was a delightful bookβ€”a fun, adventurous romp through Italy.

New Yorker Jayne Boland quits her job in the fashion industry and travels to Italy, believing she is about to start her life with her almost-fiancΓ©, Matteo. But Matteo has different plans, and they don’t include her.

Jayne decides that, since she is already in Italy, she will move to Milan and attempt to reconnect with an old friend in the fashion world, hoping to secure a job. But instead, Jayne, needing money now, lands a job as a nanny for Electra, a demanding and self-centered Countess, adorable son.

Jayne was a lovable and endearing character. She was a ray of sunshine even when things kept going wrong! Her predicaments, though challenging, were often laced with humor, and I found myself laughing several times at her witty comments about them.

Full of the sights of Italy, this is a story of how a loss at love, an unlikely adventure, and a trying friendship became the catalyst for one woman's self-discovery. Highly recommend this one for its inspiring journey of finding what truly matters in life!

Charity Trickett is the quirky and too sweet for her own good assistant to the director of a blockbuster film. She gets cheated on by her boyfriend, has a co-worker who treats every interaction like a competition, and her boss is pushing the boundaries between assistant and servant!

Yet, she is loved by many, including some prominent Hollywood stars, and she aspires to become a screenwriter in her own right. But things don’t always go so well for Charity Trickett.

If you're a movie buff, this is filled with great 1990s movie nostalgia. Additionally, it provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse into filmmaking. Charity is present on the set and actively involved in various stages of the production process. (I could tell the author had hands-on experience.)

There’s also a bit of a mystery that adds a little twist to the story. When something vital to the movie’s success goes missing, Charity is caught in the middle of it - in fact, she may take the fall.

The writing felt natural and possessed a charming quality; I couldn’t help but root for Charity to find her happy ending. The blend of movies, mishaps, friendship, and a touch of romance made it easy to read this in one sitting.

Lola is one of New York’s most sought-after fashion influencers - until one social faux pas sends her life spiraling out of control. Say goodbye to the perfect boyfriend, loyal (yeah, right) followers, and contracts.

Thankfully, her best friend Ryan is there for her, and they escape to the Hamptons for the summer. The location seems perfect until Lola realizes her neighbor is none other than Aly Ray Carter, the woman who authored the article that ruined her career. Despite her anger, Lola can’t help but be intrigued by Aly, adding a layer of suspense to their relationship.

I’ll say this: this was an escape read for me; who wouldn’t want to go to the Hamptons for a spicy romance? The tension is palpable, and the enemies-to-lovers trope is in full swing, but I’m not sure I could stand someone who trashed my career.

While it offers a glimpse into the influencer lifestyle and the fashion industry, it just didn’t feel authentic to me. I appreciated Lola’s desire not to put a label on herself and take the time to be alone. Maybe I’m not the target audience for this one.

🎧 I was happy to have the audiobook to pair with the physical book. Bailey Carr did a great job with the narration, helping me breeze through the story.
