read in one sitting after midnight. a minor williams work and nonetheless teeming with our most profound and destructive qualities on full display. a play about the tension between the contents of our bodies and the contents of our soul, how to reconcile them and produce that elusive thing of love. loved it ]]>

my goodness, what a book! i haven't read McCarthy since The Road and was at first quite put off, but this byzantine, exquisite labyrinth of disparate philosophy and elegy managed to baffle, upset and move me time and time again. a novel this expansive is hard to summarize, every angle of western masculinity, class identity, mortal dread and americana not only trafficked in but shot though, killed. staged in restaurants and bars, frigid rooms with snow visible beyond the window. civilization is coming to an end (as all things are inevitable to do) and the godless void of an athiest life leaves these anguished characters in an existentialist daze of turgid woe. very depressing. amongst the many stray threads of mystery featuring plane crashes and disappearing violins, it turns out Oblivion Itself is the antagonist of the novel: it takes the form of the IRS, the American government, alcohol, incest and longing. i will definitely revisit some time in the future. a beautiful and haunting work of auteur fiction we may never see the likes of again in contemporary letters ]]>

easily the most shrill and frantic celebrity memoir i've ever read. untethered from reality, muddy with speech, blathering and defensive. it's a unique experience if nothing else! i read this to learn more about katie price in advance of a podcast episode and was absolutely horrified to find this to be some kind of gothic novel about debt collectors, bankruptcy, banal drug use, dead animals and plastic surgery. really a whirlwind. can't recommend it, but glad i read it. ]]>
