This is a new series to me by Simon Brett ... the first in the Feathering Mysteries ... and I was thoroughly entertained. I loved the quirky main characters Brett created ... two very different women and the fun of how they are drawn together to try to solve a mystery when one finds a body on the beach! The characters of Feathering, you meet through the book, are diverse and entertaining ... definitely making me want to go back to learn more about all of them. A good read with a great mystery. and a surprise ending! ]]>

A new Gaslight Mystery book is always a treat ... and even now with this No 27 in the series they continue to be an engaging, compelling read! ...Victoria Thompson does incredible research to set the time period of her stories, teaching you a little history lesson while you are lost in her characters' adventures. I look for every new title she writes. ]]>

I really enjoyed finding this new series ... and have already read the second title, too. The main character in this historical mystery is Amelia Amesbury, a widow and a countess. Her secret joy to fill her days is writing anonymous "Dear Abby" replies for a London newspaper.... These, of course, lead to murders and other mysteries she gets involved in ... and a host of fun characters you will greatly enjoy. ]]>

A ROYAL PAIN is the second title in Rhys Brown’s HER ROYAL SPYNESS series. I don’t often find a series that draws me in and hooks me but this fun, delightful HER ROYAL SPYNESS series of books, set in England in the 1930s, definitely has me hooked! I just finished the 10th title (the 2nd is pictured here) and can’t wait for more!!! The main character, is Lady Victoria Georgiana (“Georgie) Charlotte Eugenie. She is daughter to the Duke of Atholt and Rannoch and a cousin of King George V of England but hardly rich and privileged, as everyone always seems to assume, but in fact flat broke and pressured by her family to marry into a noble family. But some of the characters they pick out Yikes! you can see why Georgia runs every time. Additionally, Queen Mary is always getting Georgie involved in various mysteries and endeavors and it’s rather hard to say no to the queen. The characters throughout all the books are odd, quirky, and endearing, the scrapes Georgia gets herself into a constant entertainment. …One review says: “An insightful blend of old-fashioned whodunnit, clever satire and drawing room comedy of errors. If these interest you, begin with the first HER ROYAL SPYNESS and if you like them, Book 2: A ROYAL PAIN, then Book 3: A ROYAL PAIN, and Book 4: ROYAL FLUSH. I alternate between reading mysteries and romances ... and, oh, my, was book HER ROYAL SPYNESS by Rhys Bowen was a delight! I admit I neglected work to finish it ... and that's saying a lot when I'm also an author of almost thirty books myself. Sometimes we authors can be picky readers. ...Anyway, the main character in this historical mystery, Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie, is the daughter of a Duke, related directly to the Queen - practically royalty- and also "flat broke." In her societal position, no one will hire her to work, nor is she supposed to... even when it's hardly her fault her family is in such straights.... To avoid being pushed into marriage, she escapes to their London house - sans servants -and starts learning how to make her own way. She also discovers a dead man in her bathtub ... which gets her into solving her first mystery case. All in all, it was a sparkling story, beautifully written, with fun, quirky characters... and even better, I've found there are many more books in this series. I'm starting the second as soon as I can pick it up from the library! ]]>

Having just finished, with pleasure, Linda Lael's Miller's first book in the Carsons of Mustang Creek series ... I immediately settled in to read the second always a cowboy about Slater Carson's brother Drake ... who runs the ranch much more than his two brothers. I loved the element in this book of a grad student coming to do research about the wild horses roaming the ranch and nearby properties. Luce was a good match for Drake Carson ... and it was fun to see them stubbornly fight their little battles of will and fall in love despite it all. ...I'll be looking for Book # NEVER A HERO next ... about the third Carson brother Mace. ... If you're in a cowboy mood, look for this new series and get ready for a happy visit out west. ]]>
