I read this about 40 years ago and I'd forgotten what an incredibly challenging and detailed novel it truly is. I didn't read any of the sequels at the time - something I need to put right.

I should have read this as part of English Literature O level, way back in 1972/73. The book just didn't interest me back then, but I did feel a little guilty for having failed the O level, although that was no-one's fault but my own. I have finished it now, and it is perhaps an easier story to read when you have some experience of life and can appreciate the aspirations, motivations and fears of the characters.

It is indeed a fine book Mr Hoffman (my O level English teacher). I'm just sorry it took me 52 years to finish it.

Similar apologies to Mr Smith - I promise to give Three Men in a Boat another go!

Highly entertaining. My introduction to Ruth Galloway just happened to be the final book in the series... such is life! I shall try to pick up book one and start the series properly.

Not one of Baldacci's best imho, but even on an off day he is still capable of crafting very readable work.
