It's been a while since I've stayed awake until 05:30 in the morning during a workday to finish a book but this time I had to. I didn't expect to enjoy a not spicy romance so much but this book is awesome. Although both leads are doctors there weren't the usual bullshit tropes ("banging in the on-call room" or "brilliant 29 year old doctor with 20 PhDs and 3 subspecialties that you somehow never see working"). The anxiety representation was pretty good and appreciated.
Jacob is one, if not the best, MMC I've ever read in a romance. He's a sweetheart and his home sounds like an introverts dream cocoon. I saw many people criticizing the third act conflict and I was a bit weary (yes, I am that crazy monster who reads spoilers) but I honestly didn't find it that bad. Sure, there's a lot of miscommunication and the two leads are 2 big dummies but I can sort of see it happening with their sort of baggage and personalities. Yes, it's stupid, but people are stupid sometimes.
This story is described as enemy-to-lovers but I find this a bit exaggerated- they were enemies for 2 seconds. Fake dating it's a more accurate description.
There's also a lot of easter eggs and cameos from past books which is always fun. There's also the obligatory Nadia Cakes reference (at this point it's both annoying and endearing but it's her book and she can advertise it as aggressive as she wants to).
