"This was a novel with so much shit happening that I will enjoy forever. Thank you to my friend Aubrey for recommending and gifting me a copy of this book.

Typically when a book has a bunch of moving pieces, the author tends to lose sight of where they're heading. But I thought that All Fours was a great representation of someone(s) going through a lot in a short period of time.

The best book I’ve read in a while! It’s almost 500 pages long and mostly takes place during a single evening—the slowest slow burn ever. But time is taken to get to know each character, the protagonists and the antagonists (Ida is my favorite), so that you’re deeply invested every time something goes wrong for them.

And the writing! I love run-on sentences when they’re done right, and the prose is exceptional in this book; every sentence is intentional. I knew I’d love it when the first page was made up of one sentence. I’m obsessed with everything about The Birthday Party and will be thinking about it constantly for weeks to come.

(Can someone translate ALL of Laurent Mauvignier’s books so that I can read all of them? Or I’ll learn French.
