bookshelves: adult-fiction, mental-health, thriller
This book is well written and well constructed with exactly enough twists and turns and three dimensional, believable characters. So often, I complain that a book tries to "do too much"-- too many plot lines. This one, though, has the right amount that all work together.

I couldn't put this one down! It's part mystery (Izzy is trying to figure out what happened to her son a year ago) and part psychological (parenthood, relationships, mental health). If you are finding Ruth Ware or Lisa Jewell a little cliched, try this book out. ]]>

I was able to read this ebook through #NetGalley!

The makings of a good thriller (especially with there being SO many out there right now) are not to be found here. The whimsicality of the senior citizens was a great touch, but everything else just fell very flat. The other protagonists were just eh, and the end made me roll my eyes. Too slow for something that should be fast-paced. ]]>

Night Swimming covers that summer before college / adult life, right after graduation. While it seems like it would be a good young adult, it's actually great for adults, too. There's something mysterious but strangely relatable about wanting to stay in certain moments, with certain people for forever that anyone can understand.

I didn't love the ending. I liked the ambiguity of it, but I could see young readers really struggling with it (hence maybe not YA). This book is thoughtful and weird. It's not a fun, easy read. It's quick (or it was for me), but it's contemplative and strange and uneasy and easy all at once. ]]>

I was able to read this ebook through #NetGalley!

There were just too many characters; I only made a connection with Mado. It was a lot for me to keep track of, but I was still interested in the overall book. However, I would not necessarily recommend it.. it felt really slow at times, but the historical part of it was good..? I am still confused by this book. ]]>
