Before I got here, I thought for a long time that the way out of the labyrinth was to pretend that it did not exist, to build a small, self-sufficient world in a back corner of, the endless maze and to pretend that I was not lost, but home. But that only led to a lonely life accompanied only by the last words of the looking for a Great Perhaps, for real friends, and a more-than minor life.

And then i screwed up and the Colonel screwed up and Takumi screwed up and she slipped through our fingers. And there's no sugar-coating it: She deserved better friends.

When she fucked up, all those years ago, just a little girl terrified. into paralysis, she collapsed into the enigma of herself. And I could have done that, but I saw where it led for her. So I still believe in the Great Perhaps, and I can believe in it spite of having lost her.

Beacause I will forget her, yes. That which came together will fall apart imperceptibly slowly, and I will forget, but she will forgive my forgetting, jus

Hands down one of the best books ever to be written. Fundamentally because it works on so many different levels. Memoir- check, American small town- check, in the late 50s- check, coming of age- check, science-check, family struggle- check. It is such a brilliant story that most everyone can connect to regardless if you have Appalachian ties, regardless if you grew up in that time period, regardless if you care about rockets. There's something in here for everybody. It is fast-paced and doesn't have any unnecessary fluff. All threads are relevant and exciting to the overarching story at hand. The memoir is so symbolic and perfectly concise it feels as if it was made up by someone and not true events. The fact that it is a true story makes it that much better. In short, this book has changed my life. By no small margin. You really find yourself rooting for such a relatable protagonist. There are lessons and themes to be learned in this beautiful adventure. Highly recommended to anyone but specifically coming-of-age boys. They in particular will get a kick out of what Sonny has to offer. I can't praise this book enough. One of my favorites to be sure. ]]>

Steve Jobs Stanford Graduation speech on youtube that last Eleven minutes sums up the morals/themes of this book better than this book does in 4-5 hours. I did enjoy this book. Moderately. It touches on Ideas I think to be profound but lacks a sense of Character attachment and thrill to make it super enjoyable. There is wisdom to be found in this book and simply because it is so short it is worth recommending to anyone trying to find their way in this life. ]]>

This book is all around alright. It contains several of profound insights from the perspective of a renowned scientist. The insights can feel tangential or confusing. I didn't agree with some of what was written but I do respect Neil and applaud the work he has put into his field. If you are a scientist particularly left-leaning I think you'll enjoy this read quite a bit. Although I finished the book it's not my cup of tea. ]]>
