That Girl Who Ran Off and Kissed a Vampire by K.R.S. McEntire
"This is a YA portal fantasy. That girl who ran off and kissed a Vampire is so cute. It has been a pleasure to read. I giggled, I gasped, and I wanted to throw my kindle across the room!

Highly recommend. I adored the structure and premise, going from modern world to a more basic one.

Just lovely!!"

That Girl Who Ran Off and Kissed a Vampire by K.R.S. McEntire
"I can’t get over how much Raven was me at her age. She has ADHA, I had that as a child, but there was no name for it in the 60’s. I was diagnosed as an adult, with adult ADHD. Raven was adopted and so was I. She had an Afro and so did I, especially when I got married in 1981. Her mom was a teacher and so was mine and both my parents worked and made decent money. I also didn’t have a lot of friends during high school, just a very small group and one of my best friends betrayed me and I ended our friendship. I feel like I could be reading my story.
This story was so much fun to read! The adventure in the other realm was fun and the relationship between Raven and Hunter was always changing and it made me laugh. The storyline was fantastic and kept me wanting more. You couldn’t ask for better characters, human, vampire, siren and a fat fruit dragon, awesome.
I really loved this book and this author is new to me and she is great. I look forward to the next book and all the ones to follow."

Blood Moon by Britteny S. Lewis

If you're a fan of sleepy small towns hiding supernatural secrets, Blood Moon is the book you've been waiting for. Set in a quiet Midwestern town with more going on than meets the eye, this story explores what happens when local legends about vampires and werewolves turn out to be a little too real.

Pitched as a mashup of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries with a healthy dose of Black girl magic, Blood Moon hits that perfect sweet spot for readers craving both nostalgia and a bit of magic. Let’s be real, my teenage self would have devoured this.

The story centers on Mirabella, a teenage girl searching for answers after her mother goes missing. As she digs deeper, she begins to unravel not only the mystery of her mother’s disappearance but also the truth about her own hidden heritage.

What I loved most was how relatable Mirabella felt. She's not the stereotypical overpowered "strong girl" trope, but a real, layered character navigating grief, identity, and love. The romance element struck just the right balance: sweet and swoon-worthy, making it ideal for YA readers in search of their next book boyfriend.

And the nostalgia? Chef’s kiss. This book gave me the same magical, slightly spooky vibes as the YA novels I inhaled in the early 2000s (yes, I'm showing my age!).

If I had to think of a critique, i'd say the story did take a minute to pick for for me and was a slower read for the first bit. But once the puzzle peaces started coming together in the mystery I could not stop reading.

Blood Moon was fun and heartfelt, and I’m so glad I got the chance to read it. Huge thanks to Britteny S. Lewis and NetGalley for the ARC! ]]>

That Girl Who Ran Off and Kissed a Vampire by K.R.S. McEntire
"One of my top indicators for how good a book really is, is how badly you are wanting the next book. Cliffhanger aside, I went and swooned with sadness to my husband that book two of this series doesn't come out until this time next year.

I cannot believe how much what fit into less than 300 pages; the character growth subtle but beautiful world building, the relationship building, the story arc, the inclusivity and representation of so many different groups, the examination of prejudice and so much more.

I am all in when it comes to cozy and cozy adjacent books and this one hits that mark so incredibly well, while still bringing you an adventure that you feel like you are a part of.

What got me most about this book though, was how seen I felt. The chaos of Raven's brain felt so familiar and then the line "Some people's brains just thought too much or felt too much or hurt too much..." and I cried thinking how much that resonated with me.

When I read the quirky title I thought I was in for a fun, cozy YA book I got that and so much more than I anticipated."
