This just became a lot of the same thing over and over again. I was really disappointed. I found that I just wanted it to be over.

I found this book at a library book sale, and the colorful cover and simple title grabbed my attention. This is a nonfiction book all about ancient mummies from all around the world (it focuses a lot on Egyptian mummies but also explores many more cultures). It explains the processes that different cultures used to mummify bodies and the cultural significance of the process.

I found this book fascinating. There were so many interesting topics around mummies discussed, and it made me extremely curious to learn more and imagine all that we don't and may never know.

The one chapter I found out of place was the section on "movie" mummies and the different pictures featuring mummies. It was unnecessary and distracting, and I skimmed that chapter.

This book deepened my curiosity on the subject matter and was a really quick and enjoyable read! ]]>

I adore a gloomy, unearthly atmosphere, and this graphic novel, told in shades of striking gray, with sparing haunting prose, delivered the gothic chill I was looking for.

Mary's Monster tells the story of Mary Shelley's life and her literary creation, Frankenstein.

The author did an excellent job bringing this story to life with the beautiful illustrations and "just enough" placement of text. I had a terrific time revisiting Mary Shelley's story here and felt that the images crafted a tremendously moving and immersive read.

I especially loved the very last few pages!!! beautiful! Mary's story is so sad and dark and full of fraught, devastating moments, but I admire her deeply for her brilliance (the work she crafted) and for her perseverance despite the hardships she endured. ]]>
