Ditching Bezos's Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ for Storygraph. It's much more fun and interactive! I'm there as frazzle, and still on ig as @turnsof_fraze. See you there! ]]>

My first Terry Pratchett!

This is the *exact* story that Monty Python would've written if they ever turned their hand to fiction. Just the spitting image of their humour.

A good rollick, but I can only take so much of this chaotic fun-poking at a time.

Any Pratchett fans out there?

Thanks to work Ben for introducing me and for the loan of the book. ]]>

When someone recommends me a book, it materially affects the way I read it. Usually, it means I'll be more inclined to enjoy it, as I know it's been enjoyed by someone I trust.

But sometimes, it just doesn't click. This was the case for O'Brien's The Third Policeman.

There were funny moments, and probably some profound ones. But I found the humour completely eclipsed by this relentless surrealism, more non-sequiturs than sequiturs, a bizzarist plot that I just couldn't care about, and long passages of utter tosh.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but you'd have to pay me a lot to read this book again.

Better to be honest than false! Thanks for the recommendation John P - keep them coming! ]]>

A novel in the style of Rachel Cusk, though perhaps a little more naive.

I love a book that examines the everyday and finds it strange. And this one does it in bucket loads.

If you find recent Cusk books too abstruse and too "knowing" for comfort, Savas may be for you. She does a bit more work for the reader in terms of actually explaining what her characters are thinking and theorising.

Thanks @hanna.kimpel for loaning me your copy and for introducing me to Savas! ]]>
