The first like 70% of this book dragged.. I was really looking forward to this one, because people were raving about it on BookGram, but for me it wasn’t what I expected.
First of all, Diem’s internal monologue was so boring and I could see from the first few chapters that obviously she was not a Mortal, but that internal dialogue was just too childish for me.
The magic system definitely needed more development, the world more building also.
The only character I liked was Luther.. there was some mystery there at least about him.
And that ending.. I definitely wasn’t expecting that! And that alone is what will make me pick the second book in the series.

I didn’t know what to expect after reading some of the reviews about this book, but I didn’t certainly expect such a crafted story.
I’ve read plenty of books in my life, and when the writing of an author is so skilled that it pulls you into the story from the first pages, you know you’re onto something.
I didn’t know if I would enjoy all the different POVs of all the characters, but I thought it was just the perfect balance and the story had the perfect flow. Although at times I didn’t expect any of their stories will end up very happy.
What I loved the most was the growth of the characters and how intertwined all their stories were. And by the end, I grew to love the Shepard King as well.. This is what I call a well-written book, and most importantly a great story. Gripping from the first few pages, the world build-up for a first book is amazing, and the characters so different also.

I had high hopes for this one, after seeing it everywhere on booktok.

But the story has so many gaps, and it brought me so much frustration!
I don’t feel I actually got to know any of the characters, the story had gaps and the way it ended .. I mean I feel like this was written just to make you grab the next one in the series even though the first book wasn’t great!! ]]>
