The Quest of Sushruta by Ajaya Kashyap
"The novel has garnered many words of appreciations from leading figures in the field of medicine and medical science already! Well, inspired by those and a few of my friends, I picked up this book by Dr Ajaya and I was not at all disappointed. The novel is more like a word painting of the internal strife of young Sushruta as he discovers his inner calling... his urge to mend the broken...
The journey of the ancient healer and father of surgery has been presented in the best possible way an author could do. The fictional liberty to insert philosophical conversations has made the narrative even more enticing. "

The Quest of Sushruta by Ajaya Kashyap
"The Quest of Sushruta draws readers into a rich engagement with culture, medicine, and philosophy from the very first chapter. Dr. Ajaya Kashyap has created a narrative that does justice to the legacy of Sushruta by highlighting not just his surgical skill but his journey toward more profound wisdom. The character interactions—especially with figures like Zara Ma, Ananda, figures from ancient history and Swami Shivaputra—added a heartfelt layer to the story, grounding Sushruta’s aspirations in universal empathy and moral duty themes. As someone intrigued by ancient traditions, I found this novel uniquely enlightening. Dr. Ajaya Kashyap’s mastery of making historical medical practices relatable was impressive, making the book informative and soul-stirring. The novel enriches one’s understanding of history and the healer’s timeless journey."

The Quest of Sushruta by Ajaya Kashyap
"The Quest of Sushruta surprised me with its depth and detail. The story explores Sushruta’s medical prowess and philosophical growth, which I found fascinating. His conversations with Swami Shivaputra, in particular, stood out as more than just advice—they were teachings about life’s values, empathy, and the healer’s duty to alleviate suffering. The narrative also vividly paints a picture of ancient India, capturing the bustling life and social structures that shaped Sushruta’s journey. This is not just a novel about a surgeon; it’s a story about a compassionate human being committed to healing. It left me reflecting on how medicine has evolved and the eternal ethical challenges practitioners face.
Yes, the occasional slow pace of the narrative may deter some readers who are accustomed to reading fast-paced literature. Other than that, the novel is a must read for anyone looking to understand the world of medical science from the perspective of one of the initial pioneers! "

What elevates this beyond typical fashion fiction is its unflinching look at industry ethics. Through Mihika's team, we see all sides - from wealthy clients demanding discounts to artisans struggling to preserve centuries-old techniques. The novel doesn't preach but shows: the child labour discussions, the muslin weaver's underpaid craftsmanship, and many other mini episodes. Sukriti's restrained narration lets these moments speak for themselves. The plot's greatest strength is making readers care deeply about these issues while still delivering an engaging story about creative competition. Thought-provoking without being heavy-handed. ]]>

Liked the overall idea of this novel... and even more that it comes from a qualified medical practitioner... a surgeon himself. Dr. Ajaya's writing style is commendable as he has been able to draw readers into the visual mastery that he created with his words while describing the internal and external words. Sushruta's internal conflicts and the external descriptions of the world around him are wonderfully depicted, perfectly matching with the flow of the novel.
