I don't know what it is about the past couple of years, but darker themes have just been looming in my head, so I have been writing them. In the upcoming book for February, it is part of an anthology, but neither of my characters are the "good guys". They are both villians in their own right and happen to find one another and work through some stuff to settle into a HEA.

Jake Gyllenhaal, music, when I read or listen to a book and think, I would have done X instead of Y I get ideas to write something differently.

Make time to write, don't stress the publishing aspects until you have 2 or more stories written. Check out my non-fiction book, Dear Indie Author by Tonya Nagle PhD (that is me in my day job life).

For me, the best thing about being a writer is sharing my crazy creativity with others. When a reader loves or hates a character, it is the best feeling. When they want more of a story or series, I know I did my job.

Take a break, try something different with it. Go for a drive. Work on another story or idea for a few pages. Sometimes it isn't really a block, more like a pause where the rest of the scene, charachter development, or plot needs to adjust and that takes a minute to process.

I am currently working on the rest of The Drummonds for my September North YA series. There will be 12 books total. Unless I end up adding more, which may happen. LOL

Read, write, and repeat.

The best thing about being a writer is spending time with the characters in my head, being able to put them onto a page, and hopefully, entertaining someone else with their stories. If one person likes what I've written, it motivates me to keep writing more. Not everyone will like what I write. That is okay. I like what I write.

My Muse, Jake Gyllenhaal does a lot of inspiring. I appreciate his work as an actor, an activist, and an entrepreneur. My creative process basically works three ways with this: 1. I see something he is in, a picture, rad an article, watch a video or interview, and it sparks an idea that I run with. It's been a little strange sometimes when I write something and then later he talks about something that relates. I don't know him personally, but publicly. I read and watch everything and I could write a non-fiction book on that man's career. To the point that I actually create lesson plans for my college English courses using him as the example or theme for my examples. My students can't write about him (I have no real objectivity on the subject so grading would be a nightmare), but using him as an example helps me illustrate so many concepts. I could probably write a book about that too, and maybe one day I will.
2. Scenarios such as Kindle Worlds, anthologies, or other group projects, and the occasional writing challenge require me to confine the plot or idea in some way so then I basically search for images and attitudes he has left on the world wide web and that allows me to give depth to movement, facial expressions, etc. Pretty much no matter what they look like on the outside, they originate from a Gyllenhaal.
3. I see something or hear something or someone shares something (I am not a safe space-if you have an incident, it may end up in my book) and it sparks, then I usually try to jot down the basics of the idea and when I have time or if that idea surfaces in a strong way (say I am looking through Pinterest and see an image of my Muse that says-cast me in that role) I start writing.

The book I am currently working on is for a Kindle World. I am really excited to be back in the swing of writing again and thought these would be a nice way to reach out to readers and let them know I am back, writing new material, and I am excited to participate in these fun worlds. My first one will be for for the Dare to Love, Carly Phillips Kindle World releasing in November.
