Take a day off when you need to, but always keep writing. It's easy to get out of the habit of it and to say 'I'll do it tomorrow'. You can't force creativity, but you don't want to go too long or it starts to dim.

Music! For some reason music has always been my go-to when I want to daydream about my characters. I've been writing short stories since I was in grade school and music has gotten me through countless papers, essays, and stories. That hasn't changed much over the years.
