Sam Stafford I don't have enough time to write to deal with writer's block. I can see if this was all you had to do in a day where you could eventually get blocked by being too close to your profession. After I address the needs of my full time job and my family what little time I have left to write (weekends and vacation) get filled quickly and so I am extra motivated to get started or else that times goes to other pressing matters.
Sam Stafford A sense of accomplishing something outside of my skill set. I am a scientist by training not a fiction writer and while I have written a lot in the past, it has been primarily scientific journal articles, reports, or patent applications and such. Writing fiction is a totally different concept. Scientific writing involves putting as much explanation of data generated in the fewest words possible, where fiction writing dictates you must explain things thoroughly and emotionally connect with the reader. Two very different concepts. But both are fulfilling in their own regards, especially when the reader finds the writing valuable.
Sam Stafford Write about what interests you regardless of what others think. Spend your time developing characters and really think through how they assess situations, like situations you deal with everyday. The more you think through the character the more real they become to the reader.
Sam Stafford I scoped out the plan for several books back when I was in between jobs and write now am very busy in my work and time with my family to write much of anything. When I have time I am trying to finish out the scope of the sequel to "The Vampire Revelation: Demon Gene". .
Sam Stafford My writing is a hobby and only done in my spare time (i.e. weekends, holidays). So to get in the mood I often sit alone in my room and watch movies that I can watch over and over again. It takes away any clutter in my mind and let's me focus on writing.
Sam Stafford Well, I was in between jobs and thinking about changing careers into writing. I thought about various genres and decided to write something that spanned across many genres. I wanted to write a book that someone who likes suspense/thriller, fantasy, science fictions, and oh, yes vampires would enjoy. I wanted to reach out to as many possible people.
