Kiki Hamilton Yes, 2018. Thanks for asking!! :-)
Kiki Hamilton Well, I would love to be a little less predictable but it would have to be Hogwarts! I would love to go find the Room of Requirement and the Shrieking Shack and Hagrid's cabin and the Restricted section of the library and of course Diagon Alley! And the Forbidden Forest and Weasley's Joke Shop! So. Many. Places. What fictional book world would you like to go to?
Kiki Hamilton Well, that's a tricky question now, isn't it? Sadly, my life is not too terribly mysterious - I guess that's why I make up stories. :-) But I suppose I would have to say my family's lost castle in Scotland. I am part of the Dunbar clan, and supposedly, way back in the day, we had a castle in Scotland (there are still ruins of Dunbar Castle) that was lost when one of my relatives married a commoner and was disinherited. So, I'd say the book would start with me receiving notice of some inheritance in Scotland and I would need to go investigate.... Thanks for asking! :-)
Kiki Hamilton My favorite fictional couple is Eugenides and Attolia from Megan Whalen Turner's THE THIEF. I find predictable romances (even if they're conflicted in the beginning) a bit boring. But this one - you don't see coming at all. I really love when an author can make us despise a character one minute and then come full circle and be rooting for them later. That takes some talent! Thanks for asking! :-)
Kiki Hamilton Hi Jem,

I had written my first novel and queried several agents. Kate Schafer Testerman asked for a partial and then the full. While I was waiting to hear back I wrote THE FAERIE RING. When she got back to me she said 'send it along' and she took on both manuscripts. In the end, THE FAERIE RING was the book that sold to Susan Chang of Tor Books. :-) Yay!
Kiki Hamilton I don't need to be inspired to write. I just need to find time! If you seriously want to finish a book you need to have your butt in the chair every day. That's what I try to do - usually at night after work and dinner.
Kiki Hamilton I deal with writer's block a couple of ways:
1. Keep writing and try to write through it.
2. Think of the absolutely most unexpected twist you can - write it and see how your characters react.
3. Go back to whatever section doesn't 'feel' right. Sometimes, a plot twist can lead you down a wrong path and if you back up and go right instead of left, things start flowing again.
4. I always have several books in process. If I'm really stuck on one, I'll switch over to another WIP and work on that for awhile.
5. Sometimes it helps to take a break and read something you love.
Kiki Hamilton I'm just finishing THE FAERIE QUEEN, the fourth and final book in THE FAERIE RING series. It will be released this Fall.
Kiki Hamilton Never, ever give up. Keep writing, keep learning, keep listening to feedback and believe in yourself. For two years before I sold my first book, EVERY time I went in my favorite bookstore I found the spot on the shelf where my book was going to be. Always, always believe in yourself. You can do it!
Kiki Hamilton One of the best things about being a writer is hearing from readers. When I first started writing I dreamed of having my book on the shelf of a bookstore and library, so it was a big surprise when I started receiving the most lovely notes from people who had read my books and loved them - and I realized I got as much or more enjoyment from that part of being a writer as I did from actually seeing my book out in the world.
