A.L. Davroe The short answer for how I got the idea for NEXIS is that my agent and the owner my my agency at the time threw the idea of Steampunk Cinderella at me. I got the idea for a Cinderella character who loses both her legs instead of shoes and ends up with crazy gadgets for legs instead. However, that quickly turned into a whole different monster and, as you can see, NEXIS is nothing like that now.
A.L. Davroe Anything and everything can be an inspiration. Most of the time something I watch or read will plant a seed -- usually it's a "well, what if they'd done it this way?" or "What happens after something like this?"
A.L. Davroe I'm always working on at least five different projects at once. To all of you asking: Yes I'm working on more City Steam pieces and yes I'm working on more Hill Dweller pieces. I'm also always working on a few one-off projects to keep me sane.
A.L. Davroe It’s seriously all about luck and timing. You could put hours and hours into writing and revising, going to workshops, and honing your craft until you have the best piece of literature ever written, but you may STILL not get an acceptance letter. Above everything, this industry is a business. If an editor doesn’t think they can pitch it, doesn’t have room for it, doesn’t have the budget for it, or doesn’t think there is a large enough market for it, they aren’t gonna take it, even if they loved it. That’s just how it is and it doesn’t mean you should give up on your dream.
A.L. Davroe Getting to meet a fan who truly loves your work!
A.L. Davroe I have a lot of trouble dealing with writer's block. My Muse does NOT like to do things unless it's on her terms. Sometimes music, long walks, showers, or long drives will get my mind turning over new ideas. Also, sometimes reading or watching something new will kick start my creative juices.
