Kory M. Shrum I am a person who likes to succeed at whatever they do and success only comes if you can enough about something to work hard at it. Writing--books and stories--is one of the few things in the world I love enough to work hard at. :)
Kory M. Shrum Hi Maya,

So sorry that I missed this question! Please know that you can always ask me your questions directly at [email protected] for a more prompt response. As to the number of Lou Thorne books, no I don't have a set number. I can see Lou's story going on for quite awhile. So I am expecting at least 3 more (which would bring me up to six books), but it could keep going until she decides she's tired of me. :)
Kory M. Shrum She knew she would survive if only she could refrain from unlocking the basement and peering into the endless dark.

She couldn't.
Kory M. Shrum Hi Maraya,

So sorry for the delay in the response, but I didn't have news about the last book until recently.

The next book in the Jesse Sullivan series is called Dying Day. It will be released October 31 and it will be the last book in Jesse's story. However, there is a possibility that a spin off series set in the same world could occur, though I don't have one planned for at least a year or more. Hope this helps! :)
Kory M. Shrum Hi Susan,

Thank you so much for reading and enjoying the books! And even more - for being kind enough to take the time to tell me so :)

The 7th Jesse book, Dying Day, is set to be released October 31. Hope it's worth the wait! :)
Kory M. Shrum Good question! I have lots of wonderful reads on my list this summer. I want to finish The Dark Tower series by Stephen King as well as the new Blood Vice book in Angela Roquet's new series. I'm also hoping to check off some YA fantasy that's been in my TBR pile for a long time: Scarlet, Truthwitch, and Strange, the Dreamer. If you have other suggestions...I'm all ears!
Kory M. Shrum Thank you for saying so, Jewel! I'm honored you think so! Tbh, I love the dialogue from a lot of Stephen King characters. I think Darynda Jones also does a wonderful job with Charley Davidson and Cookie--their bff relationship gets all the best lines! And I recently read and fell in love with Sarah J Maas A Court of Thorns and Roses series (Book 2 is my fav!) and I think Rhysand and Feyre (but really the whole Court of Dreams) has wonderful witty banter. You should read all these books if you haven't already!
Kory M. Shrum Hi Lisa!

I don't know how I missed this question! So sorry! But I'll answer it now:

Jesse Sullivan has been kicking around in my head for as long as I can remember. I can't quite recall when exactly she showed up, only that one day I realized there was a reluctant heroine with mismatched shoes and lots of snark hanging out in there and it seemed so perfectly natural for her to be doing so :). The details of her life and story were different in the beginning though.

She didn't come to be a death replacement agent and her villain wasn't the same villain until later drafts. (We're talking about five years worth of drafts). Around 2008 I read a book by Janet Evanovich that was talking about the craft of writing and about how a character's job is really important--and I realized what I was missing was a cool job for Jesse. I started searching for one around the same time I did a student teaching job in Europe. One hot August day I was hiking up the side of the Italian mountainside hauling a whole bunch of luggage to a little bungalow when I was quite certain I was going to die. In those feverish moments, something clicked. Dying, I thought. Dying for a Living. Jesse dies for a living! And it just went from there. I rebuilt her whole world from the concept of what that must be like, what the industry must be like, etc. And voila! She emerged, the Jesse you love.

And thank you for loving her! :D
