I am writing a sequel to Nail's Crossing with the same detectives, the tribal officer Bill Maytubby and his friend Hannah Bond, a Johnston County sheriff's deputy. It's tentatively titled Greasy Bend.

Visiting a friend who works for the Chickasaw Nation, I saw a Chickasaw Lighthorse Police cruiser. "Lighthorse"is the old term for a small armed and mounted law enforcement unit, distinguished from the larger cavalry. It survives from Indian Territory days. I imagined a tribal Lighthorseman and went from there.
