Solid premise, but ultimately overwrought and overly descriptive. Characters never have a chance to breathe because the book editor keeps on insisting Mason connect everything. The Osgood sisters and the last two chapters save it. | |

This is a 3.8 rounded. Some fantastic, otherworldly writing in here. But also, hm, not totally sure of meaning, esp in a handful of particularly dreamy passages. I think it’s: “all horrors are dulled by routine.� ie, be better, do better, don’t hide � ...more |

Painfully boring until page 260, when Naomi appears. And by that point there’s 14 pages left, so not sure what to do with that. It’s impossible to care about the narrator. I get that he’s supposed to be whiny and annoying and self-hating, but it just ...more | |
