So this is what retirement will be like?

Hello darlings,

Nothing much terribly new this week; mostly I'm just finishing up some stories* and living a strangely idyllic life before school starts up again.  Lots of faffing around online, of course, but I'm also back to getting out on the bike, doing about twenty miles yesterday.  In the rain.

(This is totally my new favorite picture of myself.)

South Wales really does do autumn well, but you'd not know it from this:

(That dark curve is Garth, which almost completely inspired where...

I create my own doom

Hello dearies,

Well, I write to you emerging (slowly) from a tech-induced coma.  After having gotten lost at every possible point in the last few years, plus being really cranky when I can't check e-mail for even hours, plus the fact that I am sort of the world's cheapest gadget-head…I now own a smartphone, running Android.

Oh my giddy great-aunt (to borrow a phrase from Stephen Fry).  I adore it.  I adore everything about it (except for the problems I had actually getting it to talk to O...

don't worry, school starts again soon and I'll have no time to blog!

Yay, it's a publicity blitz!  Untreed Reads has done a proper write-up on Kipling and Camping and posted it to their blog .  It's still a few weeks before it hits the UK market, but hopefully Good Things will come of this.  (If you've read the story and just absolutely love it and want to tell everyone about it, that's probably a good page to link to, incidentally.)

Don't forget, you can win a story or goody box just by leaving a comment or here!

I want to do other famewhore...

ten questions

Hello dearest ones,

Well, welcome back to the usual Wednesday post!

It's been quite a week, so I'm going to go to an old classic my answers to James Lipton's ten questions, from Inside the Actors Studio.

(Also I'm really wrestling with an idea for a story, involving a character with obvious, disfiguring disabilities, avoiding the fetishization thereof, and wondering if I can pull the whole thing off without coming across as a complete asshole about it all.  Yes, I overthink things, but...

I swear, it's like waiting for a bus in here

Nothing for ages, and then two stories at once

My short story "The Eater of Stories" appears in Circlet Press' Like a Veil anthology, out today!  You can buy it from Circlet Press .  I'm really fond of this story; unlike most of what I write, it came out pretty much all in one go, and the first draft was entirely hand-written.  It's my attempt at a Neil Gaiman-ish story and most of it was written while sitting in the sunshine at the Hay Festival, and you really can't get better...

Still alive, with a NEW STORY

Hello dear ones,

Good grief, could I have gone any longer between posts?  Alas, it's been mad Wednesday was spent mostly running around with my sister, and recovering from a ten-day combo of Manhattan-sail to Brooklyn-Folk Fest that found me at home only long enough to shower (usually scrubbing some horrendous boat- or festival-smell out of my skin) and do laundry (ditto, but for my clothes), and possibly hurridly re-pack for the next adventure.  And then I flew home to Cardiff.  and ...

summertime, and the living is not easy, actually, thanks

It's blazing hot, I have been eaten by mosquitos, and I have a cold.  No sir, I don't like it.

Well, to be fair, I don't like the cold part everything else is kind of really great.  Summer feels like it ought to!  There are fireflies and mosquitos and it's so hot I have to lie in bed all day with the fan going and covering myself in baby powder!

Well, maybe not so much that last one I'm in full Boat Girl mode and have been down the waterfront working on various goodies and getting...

Social Networking, Part the Second

(note as I'm posting this:  YOU GUYSSSSSSSS!  Prop 8 was just ruled unconstitutional!  It's not completely the end of the road, but yayyyyyyy!)

Hello my lovelies,

I'm typing this on Tuesday from Terminal Five at Heathrow, because saying so makes me sound ever so much more interesting and well-travelled than I actually am! Also, because I'm going to spend tomorrow recovering from jetlag and being in the jungle-like environs of Philadelphia, instead of nice…rainy…Wales. Hrm.

Anyway, I've got m...

Social Networking, Part 1

Hello duckie-darlings,

Well, the nights are drawing in, but it still feels like I'm walking/biking/dragging myself through a very large man's armpit whenever I go out. Still having lots of fun with my time off before I go back to the States for a month, or in order to keep me from posting endless pinups of my new boyfriend , shall we get to a real column?

I'm on enough press mailing lists (ie, one) by now to realise that not everyone has my ooh-shiny monkeylike grasp of…whatever...

Free Fic: Velo (PG)

Hello darlings!

So sorry about missing last week (as I'm sure all four of you noticed, and mourned appropriately), but I had a friend crashing with me for her impending graduation, on top of still working the summer placement.  The placement is (genuinely sadly) over, though, and I can return to living a life of total liesure/totally not getting things done, despite having all the time in the world.

Inspired by current sporting events, and in partial apology, I give you Velo!
