It’s been a while since I posted any music (I’m working on stuff, I promise) so here’s some random guitar noodling with a tone I really like. Click to the Soundcloud page if you’re a guitar nerd and curious about the tech details.

wait, can you even be considered an adult when you got your job from a friend and never had to work for it? you're a child fresh out of college, kid, and you're not paying your lifestyle, your charitable employer is
dang! it seems like you are immediately kind of mad at me, right off the bat, and also presuming to know a lot about me and my life while neglecting to so much as introduce yourself! I must have missed the chapter on invasive anonymous sniping in “how to win friends and influence people!
but ok, let’s address the substance of your question (I am doing you the favor of treating this as a good-faith question, despite your transparently toxic intent). it’s true that my friend Ryan recommended me, along with a few other people, to do some freelance writing on Hiveswap around last April (this is actually something that I’ve done before, which Ryan knew). based on my previous work and on my twitter (you know, the steady stream of free comedy writing I have churned out daily for the past five years), Andrew thought I’d be a good fit for the freelance writing job. at this stage, the other freelance writers and I were essentially filling in blank spots in the game’s script.
however, due to my then-recent decision to leave my PhD program early with a masters in literature and focus on my emerging freelance writing career (I can only assume this is what you meant when you called me a “child fresh out of college, kidâ€) I very fortuitously had more free time to devote to the project than the other freelance writers (this is the kind of thing I meant when I kept referring to “luckâ€ in the answer you’re replying to). I came to Andrew with frequent additional ideas and writing that went outside the scope of my initial assignments (this is what I meant by “hard workâ€).Â
based on all of this, after about half a year Andrew offered me the newly-created head writer position on Hiveswap. since then I’ve put in 40-hour-weeks doing the same work I was doing before, only since I’m no longer being paid by the hour I usually go well past that. maybe you think from my twitter that I sit around playing video games all day? is it because I tend to tweet about video games when I’m playing them and not about work when I’m doing that? that’s because constantly tweeting “I am writing more hiveswap, by god is kind of fucking boring to read and unfortunately tends to lead to invasive and demanding questions like the one you just asked.
to address your last point: yes, my employer pays me a salary (commensurate with the work I do) that I then use to pay for things like food from the grocery store and rent for a place to live at. this is not charity by any stretch of the imagination. you kind of sound like a child when you say things like that, or at least someone unfamiliar with the concept of working for a living.Â
furthermore I am sorry if I’ve given you the impression that I am kicking back in a palatial mansion, only I’m not sorry, because it seems to have filled your clenched belly with black bile and writhing worms, which is hilarious to me. despite that, I hope that you eventually emerge from your rank cocoon of bitterness and find some inner peace and quiet dignity. if you live in a city I would advise moving away from there.
