“He does not so much inhabit this landscape as become inhabited by it. Its rivers flow through his veins, its branches toss in his hair, its planets burn through the bone of his forehead and irradiate his skull, its volcanoes stir and grumble in his throat”
Gerald Moore

“A good page turner is a blessing, a bad one a curse.”
Gerald Moore, Am I Too Loud? Memoirs of an Accompanist

“A good page turner is a blessing, a bad one a curseâ€ I wrote in Am I too loud? After a several disturbing experiences with auxiliaries I decided I would fend for myself. What was the result? By answer I quote further from A.I.T.L.? ‘…on the platform the most subtle zephyrs…concentrate cleverly on my score…these friendly little blasts get to work…and after I have turned the page, gently waft it back again. Page fifteen, for instance, though I have turned it, dislikes lying on page fourteen and, while my hands are engaged…the rebellious page slowly rises and starts to return to the bed it found more comfortable…the page begins its slow rotation from left to right…nor can I spare one hand for a second to slap it back. I must provide a counter blast and begin, puffing like a grampus, to blow at the fluttering sheet, taking care to maintain a steady pressure of wind before the puffing angle becomes too reduced to be effective.â€ You had to trim your wind to the sail, not your sail to the wind.”
