He wanted to pass on all of the nuggets of wisdom he collected from his own father and his own experiences. Towards the end of the book he talks about how the fact his children will grow up with their father, he focuses on what they will lose instead of what he will lose. I think he bares his soul in this as a way of comforting his children when they are old enough to know what's really going on and to show them just how much he loved him. (less)
