I loved Olive Kitteridge, but it's been a while since I read it. Do I need to re-read it in order to fully enjoy this one?

Phil I chose to re-read the original and Iâ€™m glad I did, I enjoyed it all over again and I think appreciated it even more the second time. Do you need to read the first book to understand this one?

Susan (on hiatus) I read this without reading the first Olive Kitteridge and it worked for me as a stand alone.

However, I'm one of those readers that enjoy a 'less is â€¦m´Ç°ù±ðI read this without reading the first Olive Kitteridge and it worked for me as a stand alone.

However, I'm one of those readers that enjoy a 'less is more'approach and don't need detailed information about characters.

I loved this book and will read the first one because I can't get enough of Olive.(less)

Although I enjoyed the character of Olive especially in the first novel, I found her demise very sad! Am I alone in this!?

Why all the politics in the last chapter? Was Ms. Strout aware that half of her readers would be put off by her turning political, thus she waited until the end to lay it on thick?

Mary Billinghurst I think she wanted to add to the realism of the times in which the story takes place. She also wanted to show that people from opposite sides of the pâ€¦m´Ç°ù±ðI think she wanted to add to the realism of the times in which the story takes place.
