Do I need to have read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy to understand all the references in this book? I Iâ€™m not too far in but keep googling the nonsensical (to me) terms keeps coming back to hitchhikers. Wondering if it will go on like this throughout.

Is there a reason for the name Serious Cybernetics Company? It reminds me of something?

D Yes, it's a reference to the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation from Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. In context it is the kind of â€¦m´Ç°ù±ðYes, it's a reference to the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation from Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. In context it is the kind of reference that a suitably geeky technology firm would make - calling the employees Mice (like the beings who worked in Magrathea - the planet which built planets) the security Vogons (after the officious, brutish aliens who demolished the Earth) and the 'know where your towel is' (the watchword of Hitchhikers) for new starters.
Elon Musk names his SpaceX projects after ships from Iain M Bank's Culture universe after all.
Aaronovitch is certainly a fan of Adams - as befitting his age and interest in humour and science fiction. If you like this series, then you will very probably enjoy Douglas Adams too.(less)

I notice that for both hard cover and kindle versions the UK version is 100 pages longer than the US version. Anyone have an explanation for this, smaller font or something?
