From reading some of the reviews, it seems the relationship between human and bird is not the focus of this memoir. Is this true? I've adored books such as Wesley the Owl by Stacy O'Brien, Alex and Me by Dr Irene Pepperberg and Corvus by Esther Woolfson, and would not be as interested in reading Featherhood if the relationship between the author and a magpie is not the focus of the memoir.

Despite good treatment by his beloved adoptive father, he can't resolve feelings of unworthiness and depression. The bird helps him get in touch with his better self and helps his relationship with his fiancÃ©. Wesley the Owl is one of my favorite animal books. This is nothing like that.(less)
