Augustine "Og" Mandino II (December 12, 1923 September 3, 1996) was an American author. He wrote the bestselling book The Greatest Salesman in the World. His books have sold over 50 million copies and have been translated into over twenty-five different languages. He was the president of Success Unlimited magazine until 1976 and is an inductee of the National Speakers Association's Hall Of Fame.

Mandino was born December 12, 1923. According to the 1930 U.S. Census, he was named after his paternal grandfather.

Mandino was once the editor of a high school paper and planned to attend the University of Missouri's journalism school. But in the summer of 1940, before Mandino was able to enter college, his mother died suddenly from a massive heart attack. This happened while Mandino's mother was in the kitchen preparing his lunch. After the incident, Mandino decided to work in a paper factory until 1942. Afterwards, Mandino joined the United States Army Air Corps where he became a military officer and a bombardier. He flew for thirty bombing missions over Germany on board a B-24 Liberator during World War II. It was also during this time that Mandino flew with fellow pilot and movie star, James Stewart. Mandino kept a personalized 8 X 10 photograph of Stewart. This photograph hung on the wall of his home office where he wrote his books.

After his military duties, Mandino discovered that many companies were not hiring many former bomber pilots. As a result, he became an insurance salesman. Traveling on the road and sitting in bars at night, Mandino became an alcoholic. He was unable to keep a job. As a result, Mandino's wife, together with their only child, left him. One wintry November morning in Cleveland, Mandino almost tried to commit suicide. But as he sorted through several books in a library, volumes of self-help, success and motivation books captured Mandino's attention. He selected some titles, went to a table and began reading. Mandino followed his visit to the library with more visits to many other libraries around the United States. He read hundreds of books that dealt with success, a pastime that helped him alleviate his alcoholism. It was in a library in Concord, New Hampshire, where he found W. Clement Stone's classic, Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude, a book that changed Mandino for the better.

Mandino eventually became a successful writer. His works were inspired by the Bible and influenced by Napoleon Hill, W. Clement Stone, and Emmet Fox.

Literalmente.

Senti-me tocada.

Bought this book in 1995 and have read it more than 10 times already. A good read specially during low times in life. It reminds the reader that happiness and success (and vise versa) is a choice. Just like the "Being Happy!" book.

Self-awareness book by a classic author of self-help books. Not only reminds me about solid principles of life, but makes me aware of how much I take for granted the great things in my life. Og is the epitome of positive thinking!

In my opinion this is an excellent book to help the reader truly find a better way to live. There are no secrets to the rules, they just work when they are applied. The secret, if there is one, is to apply the rules. Most people probably just read them without applying them. For the last 13 years I have applied rule no 2. Today, and everyday, deliver more than you are getting paid to do.

I have had great success in applying this rule.

This is an old (circa 1990) Og Mandino Positive Mental Attitude book. It is a quick read with with Mandino's life story and 17 rules to live by, like - "be grateful," "laugh at yourself" and "Realize that true happiness lies within you." Nothing new here, but a tried and true philosophy of how to live a good life and be happy, and that is always good to keep in mind.

An excellent book! The first book I've ever read in one sitting. I especially liked the 17 rules. I liked them so much that I think I may have them enlarged and either put in my house or my classroom.

Lasot grāmatu, viens no lielākajiem ieguvumiem bija saprast, ka galvenais, kurš var atrisināt savas problēmas esi Tu pats, jo kurš gan labāk tevi sapratīs.

Peguei nele e comecei a ler.

Atrodo, viską mes žinome, bet kartais reikia to priminimo, palaikymo, patarimo.
O. MANDINAS kviečia kurtis savo geresnio gyvenimo kelią ir dalinasi savo patirtimi, verta paskaityti, galbūt patiks ir jums.

This is a modern day remake of Epictetus's Enchiridion in spirit, but not letter.
Og Mandino was a truly amazing man--his books have helped millions find purpose and direction in their lives.

"The Older I get and the longer I live, I 've discovered that the only way to conquer life, is to live each day with all of the love, gusto, and gratitude that we can muster; then look up and take a deep breath of that fresh air, and thank God for the gift of a new day; and live this day with as few frowns as possible and a basket full of smiles " Og Mandino

Who would've thought that at one point in his life, one of the world's leading inspirational authors, nearly spent his last few dollars on a suicide gun?

A Better Way to Live is Og Mandino's own personal story of success, and for the first time ever he describes the joyously redemptive process that turned a down-and-out alcoholic into a millionaire and a happy man within 10 years. In this book he shares his 17 "Rules to Live By" that helped turn his life around.

One of the factors that gave Og the idea to share his backstory with his readers came in the form of a young woman asking him to sign one of his books for her after one of his lectures. The young lady said to him that he made achieving success seem too easy, this was probably because he didn't endure any hardships or trials along the way. This struck Og deep, and he immediately worked his backstory into his succeeding lectures so that he will be more relatable, and has now found it's way into a book.

It has been said, that when you read a book, it's akin to being in the same room as the author. All the information you get, is like the author personally teaching and sharing this information with you. This is what makes this book special. Og personally gives you a tour of his house and invites you into his private work space where he will tell you all about the 17 principles to a Better Way to Live, and in the classic Og Mandino style: you read 1 teaching/lesson for a prescribed period (1 lesson per day for this book) before moving onto the next, while integrating what you learned prrviously to the current lesson. Thus building good habits and replacing bad ones.

I love Og's writting style and how he is able to weave a tale (fiction or non-fiction) so immersive and still gets to teach you valuable lessons. It's always a pleasure reading his works. It's just that this book is not suitable for very young readers due to certain themes. Parental guidance is advised.

There are many positive thinkers in our world today, but those with the ability of putting it into words for the rest of us are few.

The first rule in his book is about creating a better way to live.

"Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play, and you will finally be able to move forward, toward the life that God intended for you ... with grace, strength, courage, and confidence."

Mr. Mandino’s book, A Better Way to Live, is an Intimate, honest and inspirational view of a man who looked at life and made hard choices. His turnaround, motivational and inspirational books, and view of life are amazing.

his book is full of anecdotal evidence showing that we can initiate positive changes to live in better ways The Profund thought to love others as if today is their last day on earth and living as if it is our last day, awakens the heart. The author is a great storyteller and has a flair similar to Mr. Zig Ziglar. Great quotes, side stories, maxims, and life lessons are a beautiful gift to the reader.
