Deepak Chopra considers the mystery of our existence and its significance in our eternal quest for happiness. Who am I? Where did I come from? Where do I go when I die? Chopra draws upon the ancient philosophy of Vedanta and the findings of modern science to help us understand and experience our true nature, which is a field of pure consciousness. When we understand our true nature, we begin to live from the source of true happiness, which is not mere happiness for this or that reason, but true inner joy. When we know who we are, we allow the universe to flow through us with effortless ease, and our lives are infused with power, freedom, and grace.

If you want to read a book that will literally change your life, and if you are ready to take the steps in order to make that change there are two authors you HAVE to read: Deepak Chopra and Eckhard Tolle. It is hard to put into words the impact their books have had on my life. Deepak Chopra goes much deeper than Tolle and some of his concepts are hard to get your mind around. I really and truly believe this book and A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle saved my life.
If you are struggling with depression, if you feel chained to your past and especially if you are dealing with the loss of a loved one, this book is a must. It does not matter if you are Christian, Muslim or Buddhist, this is not a book about religion so much as it is about spirituality and turning off the voices in your head that tell you you're worthless, you're ugly, you've made all the wrong choices and keep you chained to a past that you can never reproduce no matter how hard you try.
This book may not be for everyone, there are some concepts that are incredibly hard to grasp. However, if you will open this book with an open mind and read it without judgment, it can quite literally change your life.
I would suggest reading "The Power of Now" first, the "A New Earth" and then this book. This is the first Deepak Chopra book I have read and I cannot wait to read more. The ideas he brings forth in this book have given me so much hope (even though he does not like to use that word) and an entirely new lease on life. However, much like with the concepts in "A New Earth" is not a one-time cure all, but a spiritual way of life and thinking you must practice every day for it to truly do you any good. Curious? Read it.
2.5 I confess. I skimmed the last 20 pages and found nothing to really engage my interest other than a lovely little conversation with his granddaughter that tries to teach the concept of her interconnectedness with the stars. Mostly though, it’s him stating a philosophy but not really being able to explain the why of it. His answers are vague and what he presents is just more of the same in each chapter. I have read a fair number of books from a broad range of teachers. Thich Nhat Hahn (who would probably very much approve of the simple teaching of the connection to the stars given to the granddaughter) Rupert Spira who explains Avaita Vedanta and interconnectedness so very well, Tara Brach, and many others. So I am fairly spoiled for very good writers who teach on interconnectedness, the importance and value of mindfulness, and the impact these teachings can have on one’s well being. I’m not sure I buy into the idea of flow and manifesting in the way he has presented it. I could give examples but honestly I just can’t be bothered. Sorry, if that’s annoying in a book review but the idea of going back into the book and finding the occurrences is very unappealing.Overall, this book just didn’t work for me and I think it may be that I just don’t quite get on with his particular way of teaching and writing. Won’t be reading more by this the author as I suspect it will be more of the same that I read in this book.
Really good book. Small pocket-size paperback, easy to manage for reading little bits at a time in the daytime (carry along in handbag to read while waiting for appointments) or before bedtime. It doesn't do well with reading straight through... must be taken a small bite at a time, chew, digest, and return for a little bit more. Very thought-provoking, inspiring, motivating. A feast for the deep thinker, the contemplative mind.
I really enjoyed this book, even though it took me a long time to finish. I read one or two pages at a time throughout the year, and it was a deep and rewarding experience.
True happiness is found from within. That is the essence of this book. If we place blame upon outside sources, we become victims of our own destiny. Whatever happens in our daily lives, good or bad, is a part of us, as we are a part of the greater whole.
Meditation is one way of dealing with stressful situations and meditating about two times a day can actually lower blood pressure, increase job performance and lengthen life expectancy. Tune into the rhythms of the cosmos and allow them to flow through you to give you power, freedom and grace.
Chopra cites to the philosophy of Vedanta and to numerous scholars and prophets, such as the poet Rumi and theoretical physicist John Wheeler. Stress in our lives can be caused by worrying about the past or the future. By dwelling in the “now and realizing that everything has a purpose, one can relax a little and achieve a sense of calm. This transfers from everyday life into higher tasks, which are then accomplished with greater ease and efficiency.
I learned a lot from this book, including viewing life as an active participant in the cosmic consciousness as opposed to being a “victim. This is not to say that one should label every occurrence as a positive force, but it does give one the chance to “do as opposed to being “done to. I cannot say that I embrace all of the aspects of this book, but it does give me some interesting alternatives - very interesting indeed.
Awesome book. After the first time through, I rated it not that great on the inside cover. Since then I've read it 2 more times and bought it. Its one of the best and most encouraging explanations book on the spirit and soul ever. Reading it just flows easily and makes me want to take notes. I have many excerpts from it in my journal. Here are a couple of excerpts:
"What is freedom? Freedom comes from the experiential knowldedge of our true nature, which is already free. It comes from finding out that our real essence is the joyful field of infinite consciousness that animates all of creation."
"Everything in the universe is alive. The Earth, the stars, the Milky Way, and other galactic systems are a living organism. The universe is one gigantic, living Being. When we have a feeling of intimacy with this Being, when we fall in love with everything that exists, the universe speaks to us and reveals its innermost secrets."
A beautiful book inside and out and a pleasure to read. Dealing with the Big Questions is no easy task but its what Chopra does best. The Hindu philosophy of Vedanta echoes the many paths of spirit in saying that we already have everything and already are everything...realising our true nature results in power, freedom, grace and happiness.
Picked up this book by chance (while reading another book) and then couldn’t put it down. The first half of the book has concepts which are fairly abstract and heavy to grasp, and it takes a while to comprehend them. However, the second half is simpler, yet deep and insightful. The book throws light on the truth of our existence and gives a fresh perspective on reality. It addresses existential questions such as ‘Who am I and what am I here for, with simplicity, and can be quite eye opening. It presents a convincing understanding of true happiness and how to bring it into your life. It effortlessly gets you to change your perspective and look at life with deeper meaning, joy and optimism. Some of this could be life changing. A must read!
Just like Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now," this book explains the importance of living in the moment. However, it offers so much more! For some reason, "Power, Freedom and Grace" spoke to me and resonated with me much, much more than the famous "The Power of Now." The best aspect of the book is the concrete and practical advice on accessing the source of power, freedom and happiness within each of us. Finally, the book is written in such a peaceful and inspiring tone and so beautifully narrated by Vikas Adam that I immediately felt calm, happy and inspired only minutes into the audiobook. Thank you, Deepak Chopra, Vikas Adam and Audible.
What a powerful little book depending on who reads it. I found this personal growth and spirituality book pretty impressive. Explained a lot of what I have already experienced and left me wondering how much more I have to learn. It has some challenging concepts some of which I may never understand or maybe even experience but others I know I have. If you want to grow then read this book. If you're happy where you are then you probably already know all there is to know and don't need to read this book.
Spirituality meets self help, Chopra is one of the greatest thinkers of our time. This book teaches how to get out of the hamster wheel of life and connect with your true self, your soul, and a higher being. At times flowery and deterministic, it’s still such a life changing read that I would definitely recommend to anyone on their own spiritual journey. Chopra’s teaching are based in mindfulness, with the key message that we are not our thoughts but the observer of our thoughts. Totally true!!! Loves it.
Libro Fondamentale.
This book was highly readable and made me think of certain elements very differently. That said, I can’t give it a full 5⭐️ just because for me much of it was a bit too high level and I would have liked a diver deep into more of what he was discussing. It felt like he kept saying things and suggestions and I kept wondering.. “but how?
A lot of good points on how to improve your perspective on life, namely focusing more on the present and stop worrying so much about the past and the future.
