Topaz D.A.R.E.

Rate this book
Topaz has been enjoying the small freedoms that each assignment for retrieval has given her. When confronted by deadly insects that have already killed her targets, she has to choose running for her life or finishing her job. She is assisted by another dragon who offers her an option for her time off. He will take her to visit her sister if she will spend some time getting to know him, and part of her is only too delighted to happily to take Kirai up on his offer. Dragons, kidnapping, giant bugs, poisons and meeting a sister she thought dead make for quite the short layover for an active D.A.R.E. agent.

Topaz is a swan dragon and retrieves humans from the outlying worlds they’ve moved to, be it for research, punishment, a new life or just adventure. The humans tore holes in the dimensional barriers to travel to the other worlds and they must be brought back. But Topaz didn’t expect to step out of the portal and encounter huge ant-type creatures who think she looks good enough to eat!

This is the second book in this series, but the authors have written the stories well and each can stand alone. Dragons have always fascinated me, and Ms. Xander and Ms. Grace have created an interesting species of dragon. The females are human shaped and beautiful creatures. The males are handsome, strong, and can transform and fly. They also live a long time.

The authors use this second story to expand the overall plot of the series. That helped answer the questions I had after reading the first book in the series (which is a very good read, too). Their dragons are strong, willful, and mate for life. They also have a lot of pride. No matter which world they visit, the girls seem to find themselves in life threatening situations. The story flows well.

Reading about the mating rituals and finding out how the dragons live is part of the charm of the story. The romance is heated and there are more males than female dragons, so the competition is tough.

While these are fantasy creatures, their emotions are human and it is easy to relate to them. Ms. Xander and Ms. Grace make you care about them and their families. This was a very good read, and I’m looking forward to the next in the series. There is lots of room for further development of the story and new worlds to explore. Why not visit the world of dragons with me?

I read this second book in this series to complete my "X" author for an A-Z Challenge I'm doing and it was ok. I actually quite enjoyed the first book in ths series, but this one wasn't quite as good.

Topaz is a dragon swan but does not change forms. She is part of the D.A.R.E. project in which she is a retriever and has to bring humans back to her world after they have travelled through portals to other worlds and have caused rifts that are breaking down her homeland.

Within minutes of arriving in a new world, she meets her mate, a dragon shifter male who can change form and their whirlwind "romance" (if you can call it that) took place in about 3 hours! I know this book is only a short novella of about 60 pages on the Kindle, but there should have been some resistance on Topaz's part surely?!

There wasn't much of a plot to go by either. Topaz meets Kirai, goes back to his house, meets his parents, talks to her mother about him and their future as mates, meets her sister who went off in the first book, meets a friend of Kirai's who takes her implant out, gets poisoned as a result, gets healed, has 2 elvar servants given to her by her new mother-in-law, gets some new clothes, nearly gets kidnapped, but gets saved by Kirai, goes home and has a bit of sex! Woop! Not much more detail is needed to be honest.

It was a fairly pleasant read that filled the time whilst at the hairdressers, but not great!

Second of the series, Topaz is the next sister to find a world she didn't know existed. It's a world where there are men who would be interested in her. Unfortunately, some of them are very interested when she's not. This second story reveals a bit more about the sisters.

Why are they clones? How did it happen? Some of these are explained as well as an interesting piece of information. The reason why dragon swans are not able to change shapes. It doesn't take a genius to wonder if the breeding out of this genetic trait is what is causing problems with fertility.

This was another quick read and enjoyable from start to finish. Recommended for dragon lovers.
