Fate will take them to dangerously seductive places . . .

Betrayed by her uncle, the magically inclined Gabrielle Wentworth has been sold into a betrothal with a man who will surely be her ruin. To survive—and to avoid being labeled as a witch—she must accept the help of a five-hundred-year-old vampire who's as dangerous to her chaste body as he is to her fragile heart.

Haunted by the woman who so resembles his dead wife, Darius MacLeod finds it impossible to walk away from Gabrielle and her plight. So he spirits her out of London and into his Scottish castle—where he will be torn between his role as her protector and his ravenous desire to touch her in the most tender of places.

I was born in Crescent City , California , a small logging town on the Pacific coast, home of enormous redwood trees and clear rivers. I have great memories of playing on stumps the size of small houses on my grandmother's acreage in a little town just north of Crescent City called Fort Dick . My sister and I would take daily walks to the main street store—an old, tiny white building that included the town's post office. The main street included just the market, a tavern (appropriately called The Stump) and a church we attended each Sunday morning. I loved that small town…and I still do.

In the early seventies my family moved to Washington, a state with gorgeous mountains, beautiful forests, and lots of green, which meant lots of rain, but I love all the seasons. I have wonderful memories of my childhood—a mother who was always at home, a father who worked hard to give us a good life, and a sister and brother who always looked out for me.

When I was all of 14 years old, I met Kip Templeton, my brother's best friend, and the man I would one day marry. Green eyes, dark hair, 6'1", and built like a Greek god , Kip had quite the reputation as a bad boy. I was absolutely terrified of him. Being that he was almost four years older than me, not to mention my brother's best friend, he was off-limits.

Yeah right

Kip swept me off my feet and at the tender age of nineteen, I became pregnant with my first child. That same year I also discovered historical romance in the form of Kathleen Woodiwiss’s SHANNA. That book started a love of the genre that would spark a desire to write my own stories.

Two kids and many years later I sat down at my computer and started writing a romance novel. Realizing I had a lot to learn, I bought research books, and studied the craft of romance writing. I joined Romance Writers of America, and attended a Romantic Times convention. I went to every workshop and absorbed every word. I met authors like Heather Graham, Kat Martin, Virginia Henley and Susan Johnson who were all approachable and friendly. That trip solidified my desire to become a published author.

I sold six short stories to confession magazines, and felt like I was headed in the right direction when an untimely illness threw a wrench in my plans. Soon my focus turned from writing to fighting an inflammable bowel disease that would eventually cost me my large intestine in a radical surgery.

During my illness I had lost my desire to write, but eventually I felt that familiar urge to sit down and start a new story, and I did just that. I’ll never forget the phone call I received from Amy Garvey of Kensington saying she wanted to purchase the novel for their new Precious Gems Historical line. In that moment I had realized my dreams…and it felt incredible.

Since then, I have sold time-travel, historical, vampire and contemporary romances to Berkley, Avon, Ellora's Cave, Cerridwen Press, Hard Shell Word Factory and Triskelion. I’ve also made some incredible friends (Beth Ciotta, Jordan Summers, Tracy Cooper-Posey, Jolie Mathis, Mary Stella, Cynthia Valero, Patrice Michelle, Kathy Love, Arianna Hart & Kate Pearce) to name a few…who have gone through the ups and downs of publishing with me.

I still live in Washington with my husband Kip, who is my biggest cheerleader (I even talked him into modeling for my historical romance SURRENDER TO LOVE). Our daughter has left the nest but lives nearby and our youngest is attending college and still lives at home. We’re enjoying our lives and even bought a Harley, something we’ve been waiting twenty-plus years for. It’s a good life…and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Thanks for taking the time to read about me. I hope it gives you a good idea of who I am.

God Bless!

Julia

Okay - this book had potential: hero is a hot vampire and heroine is a witch. However, it seemed the the heroine only used her powers when there was something the author wanted to do that she couldn't explain any other way. There was quite a bit of mind-reading, but it wasn't at all consistent. The hero's Scottish dialect was limited to the word "ye". And, honestly? There wasn't much original here, and the writing pales in comparison to Ward and Cole. So, was I entertained? Yes, mildly, during the short time it took to read this book. Will what I read stay with me, practically demanding a re-read at some point in the future? No. Will I read anything else by this author? Probably, especially if it is recommended by one of the ladies here I trust. And, to the people who gave this 5 stars and don't agree with me - that's fine. Just PLEASE read Cole's or Ward's series of paranormals. You might change you mind.

okay. first of all, i have to really admit that what really drew me in was the beautiful cover. nice artwork, and probably a really good marketing team went into this. okay.

secondly. the back cover read really nicely, and it sounded like a good premise for a good story. that's two strikes so far, what could possibly go wrong?

the answer is, almost everything.

racking up the faults now. the concept is surely nice and sounds good when wrapped up, but the execution is poor. this, like lkh, is bogged down by most of the pages about nothing but sex. fine, sex is good and all, but please don't try to disguise a pauper as a prince, so to speak. the author keeps telling you these characters love each other, but all they do is have sex. they don't talk about their relationship, they don't even really have any meaningful talk at all, in fact. just sex. and this is love because..?

secondly, because the pages are SO bogged down by such copy and paste work from the author in terms of the supposedly raunchy sex scenes, the book doesn't even have a valid conclusion, and lots of inconsistencies in the events that take place. so what happens after he turns her? does she lose her craft, or does she retain both? what about her little premonition about the villain chasing her and then slamming her against a tree? that never even came to pass, because the author easily had the hero step in to duel the dude. that's it? you write a book with a villain and a lot of sex just to have a neat little conclusion in a paragraph? well, very nice.

okay. THIRDLY. get ready for this.

IF the characters were well-crafted, i might even still enjoy this. but the point is that gabriella is a weak female lead, and it really shows. what happened to her powers of witchcraft when she was in danger, every time? the hero rushed in to do everything for her, and then congratulated her for being brave afterward. all the characters were such cookie-cutter types with such cookie-cutter responses and reactions i wanted to puke from the headache i was getting just reading about them. in the end, it's really about character when you're lacking a plot. anita blake still has some character going for her, despite the angst. where is the damn character?? jennifer rardin writes with RIDICULOUS plots but the awesome characters still save the day. i think my point is made. in the end, if you could convert half those sex scenes into some good character and some plot, this might have been a good book. as it is, it's the most annoying thing i've touched in a while. and i'll be glad to give this one back to the library.

I am not sure how else to describe this book other than amazing. Vampires in the in the highlands of Scotland in the 17th century is sure to be a good read for fans of historically erotic paranormal romances. Julia definitely does not disappoint with this somewhat tragic story of a Scottish warrior turned vampire and his reincarnated wife two centuries after her death.
After Darius' wife finds out he has been turned into a vampire she is shocked so horribly it leads to her death and to the death of their unborn child. Darius struggles through his new life as a vampire for the next two centuries until he meets Gabrielle, who he believes to be his reincarnated wife. Gabrielle is immediately drawn to Darius but doesn't understand why, but she is also a witch and comes to the understanding of their familiarity rather quickly.
Julia gives very distinguished voices to the characters with accents that are easy to place. The settings are described in perfect detail to allow the readers to be 'in' the story. The sex scenes are both sensual and erotic as well as frequent. The action scenes however, are few and far between with the final action scene at the end being all of about two pages in length. The story flowed quite nicely, but then lacked the same depth of detail I had grown used. The ending just seemed a bit too rushed. Nevertheless, I couldn't help but enjoy the characters and wonder if there could possibly be a sequel since discovering the surprise at the end.

The secondary love story was more compelling than the primary and it was m/m (though not too explicit). Am I going to have to make a bookshelf entitled 'almost erotic'?

Darius MacLeod, a soldier of loyalty, bravery and valor, fought his foes until the very end. A man not afraid of death who braved its terrors daily, and in the end, accepted his own calm surrender to this heartless beast. To MacLeod's great surprise when the moment was upon him, the heartless beast carried the face of masculine beauty and agelessness, and he felt nothing like a cold nothingness. This was the start of an entirely new life for Darius, and one in which he shared with very few.

A very sweet treat! A historical, paranormal romance that curbs the sweet tooth. It incorporates multiple genres into one and does it really rather well. One would think that a paranormal, regency-historical, erotic-fantasy with both F/M and M/M relationships and sexual conquests would rub together about as smoothly as sandpaper to wood. Be surprised! The story is polished and meaningful. The characters are complex and deeply portrayed. The diverse layers are virtually seamless and fit well together. The story is intense, as well as the eroticism. Try it for something different!

This book was better than I expected esp after I read some negative ŷ reviews. I liked the simple story line and spark between H and h. Not to mention all those hot scenes. Very suitable to read in a raining night.

Another new author added to my list of read again. This book was great. I went in expecting a quick story with no development, as it was less then 300pgs, but I was pleasantly surprised. As with most of my single reads I wish there was more as I would like to know what happened next for the two couples but it wasn't an unexpected ending. Speaking of the second couple that was a pleasant surprise that I wasn't expecting and without it I feel it would have been a completely different story. Not as much smut as my last read, but the fact I read this in a couple of hours should tell you how much I like it.

Honestly I’m pretty sure I picked up this book, read the back blurb and thought it would have great potential. The overall premise was good and could have been so much more developed. The bedroom scenes would have been easier to read if I wasn’t laughing at the descriptions...”her sheath, “circling her button!! I mean come on! It’s sad that writers like this are taken seriously. It’s sad that I read this.

I really liked the booked. I thought the author did a great job telling the story of Darius & Gabriella. Fate bought them back together after 500 hundred years apart. I alway love a good vampire romance story & I also love how it is set back in the early 1800s of London & Scotland. It’s nice reading stories set in different time periods. Very well written & kept me wanting to read more.

With so many paranormal romances being published, it's hard to find plots and characters that are original and fresh. Julia Templeton’s Return to Me is fresh, due mainly to the secondary romance of the hero’s homosexual brother. Templeton has taken a chance here - and it works.

Darius MacLeod, a 14th century Scot, would have died fighting in the Battle of Bannockburn if not for his vampire creator Remont. Remont changes him at the urging of his lover, Darius’s brother Demetri. Darius eventually comes to grips with his new life mainly because of his devotion to his wife Rose and their unborn baby. Unfortunately, Rose figures out what he has become and in fear causes her own death. Darius, in his anguish, would have soon killed himself if not for the care of his brother and maker. At their urging, they all visit 1818 London for a vacation of sorts and Darius comes across Gabrielle Fairmont at a ball, believing her to be his reincarnated wife.

Gabrielle’s mother was a witch who could read people’s thoughts and heal their pain. Gabrielle inherited this same talent and tends to talk to her mother in her head. Her uncle and guardian is a drunken gambler; he sold her into marriage to the sadistic Viscount of Sutherland, who has already gone though three wives. Gabrielle mistakenly reads her fiancé's disturbing sexual thoughts and tries to escape his clutches during the same ball Darius attends. Darius helps her to get away, and at his townhouse convinces her that she is his dead wife. Gabrielle is all too willing to believe Darius and, overcome with lust for each other, they engage in some steamy lovemaking for the next few chapters. Darius realizes they can’t hide out for too long, because Sutherland is lurking around ready to kill him and kidnap Gabrielle. Along with Demetri and Remont, they return to his family castle in Scotland.

Darius and Gabrielle are both up front about their feelings and discuss whether Darius should make Gabrielle a vampire as well as her fears of being taken from Darius’s arms. Gabrielle's constant mind talk with her mother and her “Little Mary Sunshine attitude were annoying early on, but to my relief, this proclivity was toned down as the book went along.

My true delight was the on-going romance between Demetri and Remont. Even though Remont is the much older and wiser of the two, he had major issues about their relationship, for Demetri is what I would call an undead Duke of Slut. Watching these two men work through their relationship problems was very enjoyable and it was a shame that their story couldn’t have been up front rather than that of Darius and Gabrielle.

There is a little bit of everything in Return to Me. I was glad I encountered these characters and I look forward to Templeton's next work in the hope that she will continue to defy the predictable and ordinary.

Gabrielle Fairmont has a miserable life since her uncle arranges an unwanted betrothal to a man with a violent past. She has to find a way to escape her betrothal and marriage in order to save her own life. Gabrielle knows she has to rely on her gifts of mind reading and her second sight, and what she sees in her betrothal’s mind isn’t something she wants to experience first handed. Then one night during a ball she meets gorgeous Darius MacLeod and feels the huge attraction between them.

Darius MacLeod is a five hundred year old Scottish vampire and has come to London as a request from his twin brother. Darius was never interested in London’s society and women after he lost his wife Rose centuries ago. When he sets his eyes on beautiful Gabrielle Fairmont, he knows that she is the one for him. But before he could talk to her she disappears into the night. When he hears of this young highwayman, he knows that fate has a mind of her own and put Gabrielle right back on his path.

Return to Me by Julia Templeton is a wonderful historical paranormal romance novel. This story has kept my attention and lured me right into the English/Scottish settings.

The story begins with Darius becoming a vampire and looses his wife Rose along the way. He made himself a promise to never love again, but when he meets Gabriella, who has some remarkable resemblance to his late wife Rose, he feels alive again. To him it doesn’t matter that she is different and has some great powers of her own. All he wants is to love her and spend the rest of her live together. Gabrielle is a strong and determined young woman, who will do anything to survive her uncle’s twisted games and escape from her violent betrothal. When she meets Darius, she knows he is strong enough to help her.

There is a second storyline in this book and I have to say that I love that one as well. Darius twin brother Demetri and his partner Remont has loved each other for centuries, but Demetri is also fond of the ladies. After Demetri last affair with a woman, Remont cannot take it anymore because he doesn’t want to share his lover anymore. He decides that it is time to let Demetri go, even though it is the hardest he ever done. Will Demetri let that happen or is he finally realizing that Remont is the love of his life.

Julia Templeton has written one fabulous historical romance novel with some wonderful characters. It had everything I expected to find in a historical paranormal romance. I cannot wait to read more of this author in the near future.

I had high expectations for this book. Sadly I was let down. The writing style we good but the story was more of a romance than a vampire/witch story. That was disappointing because I expected more imagination in this book after reading the book description. I was under the impression that Gabrielle and Darius were the main characters but as I read the book it seemed to me that Remont took the spot light from them. Witchery was used very little, there was no real vampire attacks, All the love scenes that were written in detail was between Darius and Gabrielle but there was another couple, Remont and Demetri. The sexual events with these couples went as far as kissing with a hint that more happened. There was more conflict between them than there was in the entire book. Once Gabrielle and Darius met all the did was have sex. There was little getting to know each other and everything was perfect in their relationship. There were a few spots in the book where it seemed that Templeton forgot that her main men were vampires. One sentence was about Remont buying stuff earlier that day. When she writes about her vampires and the sun, the sun burns them. So how could he have been out shopping in the day? Then there is all the mind reading ability. Darius read Gabrielle's mind and then he suddenly does not know what she is feeling. He just read her mind how can he not know what she is feeling? Little things like that messed the who book up for me.

I got to page 55 and just started to feel annoyed by the story. A vampire whose pregnant wife dies tragically and he feels he will never meet anyone like her again. Great premise, right? No. The wife died because she was running from him with fear and loathing after he confessed that he was turned into a vampire when he was mortally wounded at war. Why would I love someone like that. Then 5 centuries later he meets his dead wife's doppelganger who is marrying a terrible man and it's like love at 1st sight, except there is no love. All the hero sees is his dead wife's face. I really didn't care enough to finish the story. Maybe I will come back to it when my mind isn't so tired. So far I'm just giving it one star.

First off, I would simply like to say that "Possessioness" is not a word and has no business in a published book.
Having said that, this book has a good story line but terrible writing. This book had so much potential, I thought. I feel like sometimes the author goes out of her way to be raunchy. And would someone, please, get her a thesaurus. There are more than 3 words for the male genitalia.
Have to finish reading it for my own satisfaction of knowing the end, but will never read it again.

This book had lots of potential but the storyline was overshadowed by all of the sexual encounters between the two main characters. I feel the author could have given the reader more of a back-story on the characters. I love a good paranormal romance with steamy scenes but this one didn't make it to my favorites list.

But i still found it an interesting read. Both characters were interesting to read and i thought it was good story telling. Love Julia Templeton story telling of Historical romance.

Read this one in two days. It's very... erotic. It's written really well and has a decent story line, involving vampires. I liked that there were two "bi/gay" vampire men who were in love with each other. I enjoyed it thoroughly and it was a fast read.
