EXCERPT
"I'll stay on one condition," he said.
Her heart thumped against her ribs. "What?"
"We'll do the ritual, but on my terms."
She wished he wasn't so tall. It gave him an unfair advantage, being able to tower over her like this. It was hard to breathe, hard to--
"What do you mean, your terms?"
"Do you want to know a secret?"
Her blood was rushing in her ears. She couldn't speak.
He slid an arm around her waist and pulled her hard against him. She gasped, as shocked as if she'd stepped into icy water. She felt his strength, his power, and for a second her own power seemed to desert her. He bent his head close to hers. "I want you," he whispered.
Her face flamed, like a teenager's.
"I've wanted you from the first moment I saw you," he said, and now his lips were on her throat, at her pulse point, against her collar bone.
She opened her mouth but no words came out. Her eyes closed and her head went back, and he kissed his way up her throat, to her ear, and then he was whispering to her again.
"I can make you feel good, Liz. Better than anyone's ever made you feel."

BRIEF SUMMARY Liz is a part of the Green Fae Clan and is a demon hunter. Jack is a vampire and one of the few Liz is not permitted to kill, as he is an allied to Liz's clan. Both Liz and Jack dislike each other since they've met. With an evil killer loose in Boston, both Liz and Jack needs to come together to kill the threat.
THOUGHTS (might contain spoilers for some) This might be a novella but it packed a good read for the length of the book. Even though Liz and Jack seem to dislike each other, it brought out good chemistry that readers will love. Jack's verbal witty attacks towards Liz were cute. Only Liz and Jack can say I hate you so many times and make it sounds so sexy. Needing to battle, the threat Liz and Jack needs to perform a ritual to become stronger. What the ritual entails gets an A+ from me. Once their moment came to initiate the ritual I had stages of enjoyment. First, an awkward moment, then an entertaining moment, and lastly a very hot sexy moment. The action towards the end was pleasing and I enjoyed Liz's best friend, Celia; hope we read about her in book 2.
I have no dislikes other than I wanted more of his vampire tendencies to be used a bit earlier on in the beginning.
This was really fun. The writing was smooth, the characters were three-dimensional, and the sexual tension was awesome. The hero and heroine started off snarky and antagonistic with each other, which is my favorite romance dynamic. I loved watching the sparks fly as they went from enemies to lovers.
This is my first review here on goodreads. So first and foremost, hello to everyone :o). Ok so lets get down to business - my preferred genre of book is anything supernatural/romance/cat and mouse chase ect. I've read a lot in my time and I'm very picky when it comes to what I like and what I want to spend my time reading. Taming the vampire is a quick little read. The books hunky hero is an animal blood sucking vampire called Jack Morgan and the female character is Liz Marlowe who is 1/8 fae. As far as story line goes this book really doesn't go into much depth about what fae race is but I did hear the next volume " bound by the vampire" does go into it more thoroughly. As far as detail goes , there's certain parts of the book that lack it tremendously. The book is built up upon a certain fight that has to take place and although the romantic tryst was somewhat detailed - the ending 'fight' was a complete miss. I craved so much more than what was actually given in terms of this deadly creature who was hell bent on destroying their beloved city. Now - I suppose what most of you are interested in is the romance. It was cute. It didn't exactly have me at the edge of my seat in panting anticipation of what was to come. As mentioned earlier, what tickles my fancy is that long sexualized tension of the cat and mouse chase that has me screaming " just do it..Now"!!! Liz was described as something that my head could just not picture. I understood the authors concept of making her this hardass woman who takes no shit with witch like soft black hair and a petite little figure - but all that was coming to mind appearance wise for her was chyna from wrestling or something. The way at which she went from badass , holds no prisoners to this mushy little girl who so easily just gave up 'control' was a tad far fetched. I get that even though they both supposedly ''hated' each other- they really wanted each other and very much attracted to one another, but for me ,that sexual tension just wasn't there. The few kissing moments ( which to me are the foundation of it all ) were not detailed and really did nada to sappy sucks like me. I've read some excellent kissing moments in previous books...the kind where you feel the fireworks , the butterflies, the desire coursing through their blood and that make me simultaneously want to jump to the next part and re read that section over and over all at the same time. So, to finish off this rant/ lousy first review...I would honestly say that for people who are looking to get their feet wet with the supernatural/ fantasy/ romance genre..this is a cute little starter- upper. I didn't hate it, in fact I'm about to start reading the second book and most likely the third. For hardcores like myself, it isn't exactly the creme de la creme....but it wasn't something I hated and regret reading either. I gave it the rating I did because aside from all the negatives I really do think that people will enjoy this cute little novella. I mean, you know from the get go that it's not going to be long but it does serve its purpose in some situations and I do appreciate Chloe hart for the effort put into it. And not everyone is as absurdly picky and particular like me. As the old saying goes - to each their own ;)

3.5 Stars Another shorty I really enjoyed & FULLY intend to read more of this series. It was sexy and steamy and PNR Erotica. It needed to be longer. There is definitely some problems with it. So it had a lot of room for improvement.
But bottom line, I enjoyed it. Oh, it has Suspense in it too.
Taming the Vampire was an AWESOME, short, fast read! I read it in about 45 minutes. I can’t wait to start book 2 of this series.
Liz is a member of the Green Fae clan. She is only about 1/16 fae, her bloodline is diluted by humans. She feels that she has a disadvantage among the other fae of her clan. Not only is she part fae, but she is also a warrior demon hunter.
Jack Morgan is one of the local vampires. Liz can’t stand him, she pretty much hates all vampires (so of course she is secretly in love with him, lol).
If Jack ever found out she was attracted to him, her life wouldn’t be worth living So, as a warrior it is Liz’s duty to protect. Being as she doesn’t have much fae in her she has to train extra hard, take herbal supplements and has recently found out from her best friend Celia another way she can vamp (hehe) up her strength.
“Have you lost your mind? Celia was grinning at her. “I’m telling you, it’s all right here. A sure-fire way to increase your power for one night. All you have to do is--- “Don’t say it! ---sleep with a vampire. Liz glared at her. “You’re joking. So much for her hatred for Jack.. I’ll never be desperate enough to beg Jack Morgan to sleep with me. Not even to save the world. Especially since he’d just turn me down, which would be very, very bad for my ego. While Liz contemplates how she will make this proposition to Jack he is thinking to himself what a vampire-hating bitch she is, hehehe.
While Liz is out trying to fight the newest creature in the city she is wounded. Since she was already on her way to talk to Jack she decides that she will ask him for help in dressing her wound.
“Only you would be stupid enough to come to a vampire with an open wound”… “There is something I’ve got to talk to you about when we’re finished with this
O0o0o0, sooooo how embarrassing would it be to ask someone for sex that you hate, and you know they hate you just as much!?
Liz painfully explains to Jack about the “ritual She lets him know it consists of chants and herbs..(can she say it!)
“And then… her fingernails bit into her pals as she wlled herself to continue. She felt like she was choking. “…if we have sex… Okay, it was out, no taking it back now.
So, how does Jack take the proposition to have sex with someone he hates (yet secretly also likes) You better get to reading. This book is currently free so you have no excuse not to get it! I’m telling you I loved it and I’m off to read the 2nd book now.
I got this book as a freebie on Amazon. I decided to read it randomly because I was looking for something short to read in the moment.
I would rate it as 3.5 stars It was a decent read. It moved really fast (obviously since it's short) however it would have been 4 stars if it could have been longer with a little more context.
Liz has a little fae blood in her which makes her a demon hunter and Jack is a vamp that works with the fae by training their slayers and hunting the creatures as well.
Liz is annoying. She is one of those girls that's all stuck up, passing judgement on others but secretly wants to be like the person she "hates". Hence Jack. Jack was cool enough. I liked Jack. He didn't front about his feelings as much as Liz did but he tried to play he didn't want her at first.
Liz found a ritual involving him which makes her strong enough to defeat a creature that is attacking people in the city. Boom chicka wow wow they do the do and lo and behold, Jack lays that ass out and guess what... that stick up Liz's ass? Yeah it's gone. Now she's all simpering, whining, crying "it's yours, it's yours" when we could have skipped all that BS about hating him if she would have just been real with herself.
Aside from Liz's annoying self, the writing was great. It wasn't simplistic or amateur. No errors in this book as far as editing. I really like the author's delivery.
I wanted to punch Liz our heroine in the face for pretty much the entire book. I hate when the heroine compensates for "weaknesses" by making really stupid, dangerous decisions and being spiteful and this heroine does nothing but make stupid decisions and spit hate at our hero and then does a complete 180 in the last 5 pages. Can we say completely unbelievable? And she totally has, I know better than everyone else syndrome even though she has less experience then everyone else. Come on! If I could have bitch slapped Liz across the face, I would have.
Jack, he was great. Not much else to say about him. Liz’s obnoxious personality pretty much over shadowed his and I have to say I felt sorry for him for ending up with her. He deserved better.
Taming the vampire was a free book on Amazon, so I tried it. I wouldn't describe it as a bad book but I didn't enjoy it. There was tension between the main characters, the "mystery" was kind of weird. It wasn't my style and the "romance" could have been better. It was a short read so it was an easy and fast read but that was all. I don't think I'll read the next book in the series.
I loved this book and confess to reading it more than once. It was a iBooks freebie and I’ve got no regrets. A minor quibble is that it defo falls into the novella catagory bus as these 2 characters appear in book 2 and 3 I can live with it. Even though the majority of the story takes part over a 24hr period I feel that enough of their backstory was explained to give us s feel of each character. I also love that the h is the stronger of the 2 a nice reversal there. Our h is fae and the H is a vampire they reluctantly work together to rid the streets of evil (he’s not an evil vampire) but they don’t particularly like each other. They encounter a new monster (a kraken) that they can’t find without each other and when the h gets injured she turns up on his doorstep bleeding and he patches her up. The h had a friend who recommends a spell that will help to defeat the monster but it involves magic and sex and it transfers the Hs powers to the h. He wants her powers transferred to him but magic doesn’t work like that. The h gets the heebie jeebies during the spell casting as the H being all vampire and all us cold etc and he storms off in a huff. They eventually get over it but he says he they have to pretend to like each other or he won’t play. Anyway the sex is amazing h is like a goddess and soon kicks the monster butt. H has followed her and is set upon by some yoofs and the h comes to save him and tells them the H is hers. This is bad as apparently saying mine is like marriage vows to a vampire and she’s triggered him now it’s sunrise and his powers are back. They have a cheeky fight and h realises she’s rather have sexy times with him than kill him and we leave these 2 for their kind of HEA. I like a nice paranormal now and again and I enjoy his one

This was book 1 in the "Blood and Absinthe" series. This was a short quick read that I thought was ok. Jack is a vampire and Liz is a Demon Hunter. They hate each other and they don't try to hide it. I had issues with the whole in order for her to kill demons she needs energy and to get it she has to have sex with a vampire someone she hates. I also thought it was too short it felt rushed. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.
Short, intense, very well written, story about Liz, a Fae and Jack a vampire demon. For as long as they've known each other, they have hated each other or so they thought. It takes having to kill a powerful creature for the two, to realize their in-depth feelings and total commitment. Loved it! 4 solid stars****
This is the first book I read by Chloe Hart and it won't be the last! I really enjoyed this novella featuring Liz and Jack's story. It was a perfect combination of Fae and Vampires! I can't wait to read Celia's story!
Taming the Vampire is a decent quick read (it took me about 30 minutes to finish), but it is severely lacking in just about every aspect. Do not listen to the other reviewers who claim that this is a great story budding with sexual tension, because the truth is that there is no story here. None. There is a slayer and a vampire who hate each other and decide to have sex a day or so later. That's it. No romance, no chase, no sexual tension, just plain and simple vanilla sex, which is extremely ironic because there's a scene in the first chapter where the friend, Celia, talks to the protagonist, Liz, about boring vanilla sex, and then goes on and on about how mind blowing sex with a vampire would have to be. And the boring "vanilla" sex scene took up half the novella, so there was absolutely no room for any kind of story line development, making the book extremely rushed and chaotic.
"But Crystal, if you think the book was rushed, chaotic, and contains no story line, why rate it three stars?"
Great question. So this 'novella' (it's really about two chapters worth of content, so not a true novella) has the potential to make a great story. It is well written, contains very few grammatical errors, and flows fairly well, which is somewhat hard to find in this genre of New Adult Vampire Erotica. But, the main reason I am giving it three stars is because of its potential. This novella is the first of five currently available on Amazon, so I know the author has more to say about the could-be story line. My hope is that this novella is being used as a marketing technique, giving readers a short introduction to the setting/world so that they will be curious enough to buy the rest.
That said, I will probably purchase book (novella) 2 just to see where it goes. Here's to hoping!
Happy Reading! Crystal @
(Update 11/30/2015: After reading the summaries of the next 4 books in the series, I have decided not to read the second book/novella. I'm not a fan of book series that change protagonists, and each of the books in this series is about a different couple.)
I admit I am a big fan of novellas. It’s incredibly difficult to create a good backstory, develop characters and establish an interesting plot in such a limited amount of pages. A lot of authors will end up overwhelming readers with too much detail or underwhelming them with too few. It’s hard to get the balance just right. I think it’s a true test of an author’s skill to point out all we need to know and successfully deliver a story that resonates with us.
Chloe Hart is one of those skilled authors. This novella had me from the first couple of pages. We meet Liz who’s full of anger and fury and Jack who’s seemingly her archenemy. To quote his reaction to seeing her:
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t my favorite little ball of hate.
That amused me and intrigued me to read on and find out what is behind that comment and why they hate each other so much. In this novella, there’s a new crazy demon in town, an alliance between the Fae and vampires to rid Boston of bad demons, a very bewildering relationship between the hero and heroine, friendships, introductions to characters that show up in the next novel, and the backstory as to why Liz is so angry and why her and Jack seemingly hate each other and a resolution. And this novel conveys all this and more concisely and effectively while not inundating us with too much information.
This novella has the makings of a great series. I just hope that Ms. Hart continues in this direction and bestows us with full-length novels.
Little spoiler in this review........I would say it was 3-4 stars it was a very good read but I felt like there should have been a little bit of a mention of the very very can't stress enough VERY descriptive sex scene.....it was very detailed which by all means is fine it just seemed that it would have said that somewhere in the discripiton of what the book was about but I read it twice and the only thing that hinted that it was suppose to be a "one night thing" didnt really cover what went on in this sex scene....but the author did a great job with the story and it was very well written. The book was a good read.....now at least when I read the next book I'll know what could happen :) I'm very curious to see how the claiming on each other will play out with both there kind. I'm not so sure it will go over well thats for sure.
Liz Marlowe is part Green Fae Clan, a very small part, and they are demon hunters. Jack Morgan is a vampire who has teamed up with the Green Fae Clan to destroy rogue demons. Liz is not allowed to kill Jack but they really seem to hate each other ... but there is also incredible chemistry behind that hate. With an unknown evil facing Boston, Liz approaches Jack with a crazy spell to give them an advantage in tracking and killing this evil which puts them very up close and personal, where their true feelings might be harder to hide behind acts of distain.
This was a pretty good short novella. Taming the Vampire is packed full of chemistry, plot and witty verbal attacks. For a novella it hits the mark, 4 stars.
I DNF this one early on because the main female character is “a ball of hate as her love interest points out. She is angry and walks around like Yosemite Sam being angry because she’s not as powerful as others. But she “felt the call to be a warrior, they repeat over and over but they don’t explain what that means or why she’s called if she’s so weak comparatively. And she’s just unpleasant. Why does the lead like her? The world building wasn’t there and the characters were a bit underdeveloped.
3.5 stars... This was an entertaining book, very short for my liking, but manages to keep you glued to your kindle. I do wanted more, and wanted to see a glimpse of the fight, i mean, the whole book is about her getting stronger to fight the creature and when she gets that, we only get a few remarks about that, so i was a bit put out by that.
As for the rest of the book, loved Jack Morgan and hope to see him again.
Liz is a demon hunter. Jack is a vampire Liz is not permitted to kill, because he is an ally to Liz's clan. They hate each other. There is a killer loose and they have to work together. This was a so-so read for me, I found myself skimming it quite a bit.
Wam Bam Thank You Ma'am..... got the deal done in 72 electric pages. Not sure why the book wasn't named Taming the Fae, but whatever, it was fast and furious.
Liz Marlowe is an elf from a diluted bloodline and she belongs to a warrior group of elves called the Green Fae. Their task is to protect the world from demons and monsters. A few vampires have sided with the Green Fae over the years but she and vampire Jack Morgan don’t get along. In fact they hate each other so much they can’t see the sexual chemistry between them. When they have to work together to save the city of Boston, everything is changed between them. I couldn’t connect with Liz. She’s mean, rude, and downright bitchy at times. I felt a little bad for her at the beginning—I could understand why she’s so rough around the edges—but my sympathy faded after a while. I liked Jack better. He smarts off to Liz at every chance he gets it, but she’s the one who starts the arguments. The book could use a light edit to combine various paragraphs of back-to-back dialogue that should all be in one paragraph. (A character would sometimes say one sentence and then the next line/paragraph would be the same character’s second sentence.) That didn’t make sense to me. All in all, it’s a good story but I just couldn’t connect with the heroine. 3 Stars

Most boring books ive read this year, half fae hates/likes vampire for 87% of the book of her wanting to do a ritual to get the vamps power to kill another 'monster' then they have sex and tadaaa book finished complete waste of my 25 mins of reading and why 25 mins? because i was dragging it out because i was that fed up of the story not going anywhere apart from a bedroom. Boring Typical cheesy story Wont get those mins back save yourself some time and read something better
I chose 4 stars because it is just the first book but I didn't want to stop reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and look forward to reading the others in the series. I got this book on amazon free but not as a deal for my review, I am writing this solely as my own and voluntarily.
