Meh. That's how I felt at the end of this.

Did it have sweet and cute moments between Charlie and Kris? Sure. But did that make up for everything else? Not really, no.

The writing was very sophomoric, very silly at times. Charlie and Kris at times read as fairly immature.

It was fairly boring for most of it. At first it took a bit for these two to meet and just that set up was really boring for me and hard to get past. But even once they met, things were going slow. I was reading this going like "wait did I see that this is below 200 pages? How?" It felt like it was going on forever and I don't think I should feel that with a book, especially a shorter one.

I did start to skim parts around 40% in this, especially near the end because I just was losing interest. I almost DNF'ed this several times, but in fairness it did have interesting parts here and there to keep me from DNF'ing.

The "steam" was also minimal and very quickly written - like maybe a paragraph or two max for the sex scenes except for like...one that was maybe a page lol.

I didn't connect with any of the secondary characters either, and barely connected with our main characters.

Overall this just wasn't a win for me. It could have been a lot more interesting than it was, so this just didn't work for me. Thumbs down for me. Do not recommend.

Reread September 2023. I'd forgotten how much I love this series and this book in particular. It's so sweet. I might just have to reread the whole series now.

Original review:
5 stars! 5 stars! 5 stars!

I loved this book. So, so much!
Fake boyfriends? Check.
Royals? Check.
Low on angst? Check.
The cutest story? Check.

Read it. You don’t want to miss this.

I dunno, it was free, I was bored and figured why the hell not. It wasn’t awful, but man, it wasn’t good either. I read a review that said the writing style was sophomoric. Actually it was more middle school girl’s diary and dream mood board and lord knows what else I can come up with. Look, I knew going into this it was going to be a freaking fairy tale. But I’ve read pretty much the exact same plot done by others and done far better.

This book is not my usual thing. I am a connoisseur of royal romance, but fluff and fake boyfriends aren't usually what I reach for when I'm ready to pick up a book. However, this one was cute! But maybe a touch too cute for me. I recommend it for those looking for a light read.

This was a sweet book. I'm not sure what it was, but I found myself getting really bored, really quick. It felt like it took forever to get to these two to meet. Once they did it was all sweet and insta lovey. We are definitely being set up for future books with other characters. I'm not sure how I feel about that if I'm being honest. I hate it when series has every character in the series somehow getting a book. It's overkill most of the time and I'm a little worried this one is going to fall into that category for me.

It had a good ending, so that helped.

This was very sweet read. Kris is the prince who comes to the states to hide out from a scandal that his ex orchestrated. I despised Charlie's ex who thought after 5 years they were going to just pick up where they left off. What's even worse is that he still isn't out of the closet. What starts off as a fake boyfriend quickly turns into something more. I really enjoyed watching these two grow to know each other & eventually falling in love. If you are looking for a relatively low angst absolutely sweet read about a Prince and a commoner falling in love, this is the book for you. I loved how Charlie's family just accepted Kris and made him feel normal, exactly what he has always wanted. I really enjoyed the alternating points of view so we can get inside each of their heads. I love Tom and can't wait to read his book, which is next. I also want James' book.

A small town romance full of hearts and flowers. From the blurb I was salivating for drama and villains. But this was a rather tame good feel romance where even the villains seem to see the light and join the good guys. Even if I didn't get the scandal I wanted I still found this cute and will continue with the series.

This was cute. I liked Charlie a lot. Kris was good too. The conflict cleared up a little too easily, I thought. Good set up for future couples in the series.

Charming was a word that came to my mind several times while listening to How to Catch a Prince, from Kris and Charlie, to the fairytale-esque storyline and the narration by Nick Hudson, I was definitely charmed and invested in Kris and Charlie getting their HEA.

Charlie and Kris were adorable and while the book was pretty instalove, I didn't really mind. It was just a lovely, feelgood, entertaining read.

I'm pretty sure this is the first book I've heard Nick perform, but he did a great job. He brought Kris and Charlie and the supporting cast to life for me and it was so obvious he was having as much fun reading the story as I was listening to it, that I couldn't help but be enchanted by the story.

Very recommendable!

Molto carino.

The only reason this isn't five stars is because the author used the phrase "their tongues battled for dominance" 😅 No, but seriously, I went into this thinking it was going to be some junk food for the ears, but dammit, if I didn't get engrossed in not just the drama between Kris & Charlie, but everyone else's lives! The story was simple but not basic, was just the romance I needed with gorgeous amounts of angst and emotion, and such a delightful ending. Nick Hudson knows how to perform without overegging the pudding, and he was a joy to listen to. I can't wait to return to Chester Falls ASAP!

This was just...not very good, unfortunately. The writing style was boring, cringy, unsophisticated, and felt like it was written by a preteen. Everything just felt like it all worked out perfectly, with no real consequences or character development. It tried to be sweet but came off as cheesy. At around 33% I decided to just skim the rest of it rather than just abandoning it. So I guess that's something.

It had so many tropes I love, but it was executed so poorly. I probably won't be reading anything more from this author.

Great start to a new series (an audio review)

I’m always up for trying a new author and this book sounded like fun. Prince Kristof of Lydovia has been accused of being in a compromising position and his sister, the queen-in-waiting, has exiled him to America until the whole sordid affair has blown over. He heads to see a friend, but his location is soon discovered and he’s shuttled to the small town of Chester Falls where he holes up in an apartment, hoping no one will recognize him.

Charlie has come home to Chester Falls for his beloved sister’s wedding. His ex is hanging around and making noises about them getting back together. The problem for Charlie is two-fold. One, the ex is still in the closet and Charlie’s not willing to live there anymore, and two, Charlie’s no longer interested. He wants to move on with his life.

When he encounters a stranger in the corridor of the apartment building where he’s staying, he’s intrigued. The man is attractive, to be sure. And there is something in his gentle nature that calls to Charlie. Oh, and the guy has a great sense of humor and of adventure. Perhaps too much on occasion. (can we say rock climbing?)

Charlie opens up to Kristof about his dilemma with his ex and Kristof offers a solution to be Charlie’s fake boyfriend. I always enjoy this trope when it’s done well and it was well-executed this time. All kinds of hijinks result, of course, but all works out in the end. I’m very interested to see future books. I see Charlie’s brother and Kristof’s friend as a potential future couple. Hello, tension anyone?

Nick Hudson is a new narrator to me and I thought he did a good job. Kristof had an accent and Nick was able to maintain it pretty consistently. Overall I enjoyed the book and will be eagerly awaiting the next one.
